The White Sox no longer are trying to back their way into the playoffs.

If there had been a noise meter to measure the booing at U.S. Cellular Field on Saturday night, White Sox starter Javier Vazquez would have been the winner by a mile.

Javier Vazquez again showed he is not a good pitcher on just three days' rest during Saturday's start against the Indians.

It seemed too good to be true. First a 1-0 score popped up on the right-field scoreboard. In a blink it was 4-0. With each flash and each increasing number, the roars of the sellout crowd at U.S. Cellular Field grew louder and louder.

As hard as it is to believe, even happy-go-lucky Nick Swisher can get down in the dumps.

Step up, or step aside. It's that time of the season, not only for contending teams, but for individual players as well. John Danks was facing that fork Sunday, and the White Sox' 23-year-old starter took the first turn and ran with it.

It's not like manager Ozzie Guillen sits around obsessing over the White Sox' biggest rivals, the Cubs. Guillen is too busy worrying about his own team, but he never backs down from inquiries that involve the North Siders.

John Danks and two relievers combined on a four-hitter and Paul Konerko hit a two-run homer as the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 3-0 on Sunday.

Even with Saturday's loss to the Royals, the White Sox are in pretty good shape heading into the final week of the regular season.

Before Saturday's game against the Royals, manager Ozzie Guillen was channeling Don King as he pumped up the White Sox as hungry heavyweights.

Several members of the Chicago White Sox organization had reason to cheer before Friday night's win on the road in Kansas City.
