Brunson video evidence

Since Stevenson guard Jalen Brunson is the son of former Bulls player and assistant coach Rick Brunson, this is an appropriate topic for All Bulls.

Brunson was spectacular in Friday's state semifinal loss to Whitney Young, scoring a state finals record 56 points, including 26 in the fourth quarter. The 6-4 junior guard hit 16 of 30 shots, 7 of 14 3-pointers and 17 of 23 free throws.

The Peoria Journal Star ran a photo from the game where Brunson appeared to be raising middle fingers to the crowd. Here is video of that moment late in the contest. Brunson swung his arms in frustration after a made 3-pointer was waved off due to a foul coming before the shot. Judge for yourself, but it didn't appear that he was gesturing at Whitney Young fans, as has been depicted by some.

Changing minds on property taxes

Posted by Mike Riopell on Tue, 03/04/2014 - 10:41

A group of House Republican state lawmakers Monday touted legislation that would freeze how much local governments can collect in property taxes if home prices go down.

Among the supporters are lawmakers in tough March 18 primary races, including state Reps. Ron Sandack of Downers Grove, Sandra Pihos of Glen Ellyn and Dennis Reboletti of Elmhurst.

This idea has been around before, from Democratic state Rep. Jack Franks of Marengo. In fact, a similar proposal came to a vote and was defeated in November of 2011. Here's how people voted.

Reboletti and Pihos voted against it then. Sandack was in the Senate at the time.

U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, a Highland Park Republican, posted a photo on Twitter Wednesday with stoner comedy star Seth Rogen, who was in Washington, D.C. to testify about the need to keep fighting Alzheimer’s disease.

Rogen tweeted back, saying: “(P)leasure meeting you. Why did you leave before my speech? Just curious.”

Kirk responded that he had a meeting with space hero and Apollo 13 commander Jim Lovell but watched Rogen’s testimony later. “Keep in touch,” Kirk said.

Rogen, who needled most of the Senate committee he testified before for leaving early, responded: “(S)ymbolically, it hurts the cause to see that many empty seats. Wish you hung around. Nice meeting you.”
