Meet me at the mansion

Invites have apparently been distributed to groups of lawmakers for meetings with Gov. Rod Blagojevich in an effort to try to set aside harsh feelings, mistrust and all the other ill will that members have had toward the administration. The intent is to try to win lawmakers over to the governor's side for budget debates.

Will it work? Similar meetings in past years didn’t exactly smooth the political pavement. But hope always springs eternal at the Illinois Capitol.

The best defense …
House Speaker Michael Madigan’s latest memo to lawmakers reminds them of how the House budget process has played out. There were 19 regional hearings in March throughout the state, more than 4,000 Illinois citizens attended, 1,208 people testified, 65 lawmakers participated and then tallies the appropriation hearings on each budget area (there were eight hearings on public safety spending).

This is all an advance rebuttal of what’s sure to be Republican gripes that the budget is being rammed down GOP throats with no opportunity for participation.

And on a personal note …
(sorry, the Cracker version was the best/only version available>

One more …
(The answer is: Concrete Blonde)
