Checked the voice mail this afternoon and got this one from Leyden baseball coach Gary Wolf: "Had to cancel our game with Oak Park today, it was warm enough but the field was too wet to play." Got a kick out of it (and we laughed about it later Tuesday night at the Leyden hoops game) since it was probably the warmest day we'll have until mid-May.
Marty Maciaszek has been covering high school sports at the Daily Herald since 1992. He first started covering the high schools as a sophomore at York High School in Elmhurst in 1982 and received an excellent prep education - especially in boys basketball - for two years in Peoria in the late 1980s while attending Bradley University.
Marty has covered and enjoyed talking with coaches and athletes in just about every sport sponsored by the IHSA. He also is a die-hard White Sox fan who was fortunate enough to attend Game 2 of the World Series he never thought he would see in his lifetime.
