Ozzie's on the mark
Ozzie Guillen didn't throw Kenny Williams under the bus Sunday.
He just sent a very pointed message to his offense, and he also threw a well-deserved "I've got your back'' to the White Sox' pitching staff, which has a chance to be as good as the 2005 crew.
End of the latest White Sox controversy.
Guillen probably took it a little too far after Sunday's loss at Tampa Bay when he said: "If we think we're going to win with the offense we have, we're full of (do-do).''
Most managers would have said: "We'll get 'em tomorrow.''
Well, Guillen isn't most managers. And he said the aforementioned kind of do-do far too many times last season, when the Sox didn't have hitting or pitching.
They have the pitching now, a solid rotation and a even better bullpen.
Guillen doesn't want to keep wasting the pitching with games like Sunday, when the Sox were 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
He was angry, he spoke his mind in his unique way and moved on.
Call Guillen crazy, call him anything you want, but he knows what he's doing.
He unloaded on his hitters just before the start of an enticing stretch of 13 home dates in the next 16 games, and the guess here is that they'll repond in favorable fashion.
Nick Swisher isn't going to win a batting title, but he's not a .201 hitter. Paul Konerko is not a .205 hitter. And Jim Thome might be approaching his 38th birthday, but he's not a .212 hitter.
Guillen is not going to be fired, but he's not going to remain mute when the White Sox are giving games away, either.
As you are very likely to hear before Tuesday night's game against the Kansas City Royals, who have lost 12 of their last 14, Williams is going to continue backing his bash-full manager.
When Guillen simply lets games like Sunday slide with a shrug, that's when Williams should watch out for the bus.
