A lucky 13?

The Cubs went ahead and did it today: They now have a 13-man pitching staff. Before tonight's game against the Padres, they recalled right-hander Kevin Hart from Class AAA Iowa and sent infielder-outfielder Micah Hoffpauir back to Iowa. Manager Lou Piniella says the move to 13 pitchers is temporary and that by the time the Cubs play at Toronto next week, they'll either recall Hoffpauir or activated Daryle Ward off the disabled list. Somebody will have to be the DH in the games at American League parks. Lou admitted his starting staff so far hasn't been an "innings staff," and that's part of the reason Hart is here. "I like the idea of strong young kids up here with good, fresh arms to come in and help out, and hopefully Hart will do just that," he said. Kerry Wood is available to close tonight, but Lou says he'll stay away from Carlos Marmol, who has been a workhorse out of the pen. Cubs line up like this tonight: Soriano, LF Theriot, SS Lee, 1B Ramirez, 3B Soto, C Johnson, CF DeRosa, RF Cedeno, 2B Marquis, P Kosuke Fukudome gets the night off. He's got family in town, but Lou says he was due for a night off. Soriano may get tomorrow off or a game off in L.A. Lou said the double-switches in three straight games were no comment on Soriano's left-field defense.
