Weather or not
I'm a big fan of The Weather Channel. I'm always interested in their historic looks at major weather events, how and why they happened and what happened as a result.
Now it's that time of year where the Weather Channel becomes required viewing because of how the elements affect spring sports. I'm watching intently as Jim Cantore, Mike Seidel, Vivian Brown and Co. explain how a front is going to blast into the area around 5 p.m. and whether it might wipe out a whole bunch of games and events. It's a big part of the pregame preparation.
And of course, with spring sports, now it's time to break out the winter clothing. Years ago I made the rookie mistake during an 80 degree day of covering a baseball game in shorts and a short-sleeve shirt. Naturally, at around 6 p.m., a front came through, the wind shifted from the southwest to the northeast and the temperature dropped like a rock. Of course, I didn't have any backup in the car and the game dragged on until about 7:30 when I was ready to be treated for frostbite.
At least now with the Weather Channel I feel ready for anything.
