There go the picks

Well, last year's fear came true right away this year. My 3A title pick, North Lawndale, gets cut down by Champaign Centennial, guaranteeing me already 3 losses in my state tourney picks after going 6-2 last year.
Oh well. In a way, I look at it the same way I always have with NCAA tourney pools - once that upset or unexpected looks as if it starts happening I usually get pulled toward hoping that happens. And even though Centennial ended the season ranked No. 1 in the AP poll, most everyone expected No. 2 North Lawndale to roll to a title.
For whatever reason or reasons, at times North Lawndale seemed very passive and lacking any sense of urgency, as if this was a game it was going to come away with no matter how it played. Oops. And as I said in my state tourney picks column, I'm glad to see fellow York alum and Centennial coach Tim Lavin have a shot to play for a state title.
So if I'm wrong on Dundee-Crown and Waukegan, that's cool, too. Would have no problem with the embarrassment that would go with D-C, our only Herald-area team in Peoria this weekend, pull a big stunner and play for the 4A title.
