Sox send Beckham to minors

The White Sox made six more roster cuts Wednesday, and one name stands out.
Gordon Beckham.
The Sox’ 2008 first-round draft choice attracted big attention early in Cactus League play while hitting 4 doubles in 5 at-bats.
As the spring wore on, Beckham cooled off. Chris Getz did not, and that’s why he deservedly was named the White Sox’ starting second baseman Saturday.
Beckham was “reassigned to minor-league camp,” which is code for the White Sox still aren’t sure if he’s going to Class AA Birmingham or AAA Charlotte.
Considering he played just 14 games at Class A Kannapolis late last season following a standout career at the University of Georgia, Birmingham looks to be a good fit for Beckham.
Where he plays bears watching.
Beckham prefers shortstop, his natural position. In the Cactus League, he was mainly used at second base, but he can also play third.
The Sox currently have Getz at second base, rising star Alexei Ramirez at short and Josh Fields at third.
Maybe that’s why there have been more than a few suggestions about Beckham moving to center field. Guess you can never say never, but I’d be shocked if Beckham is shifted out the infield.
Here are Wednesday’s other cuts:
*Pitchers Adam Russell and Ehren Wassermann were optioned to Class AAA Charlotte. Infielders Ben Broussard and Eider Torres and pitcher Aaron Poreda were reassigned to minor-league camp.

It is way to early to talk

It is way to early to talk about anyone switching positions to fit Beckham in.
