Mr. Basketball votes
Submitted my Mr. Basketball ballot today - never an easy task to pick just three top players but here goes...
1. Jereme Richmond (Waukegan) - yes, he's only a junior, and yes, he still has some issues to overcome - as evidenced by the first 12 minutes of the 4A title game where there was too much head-hanging and letting a frustrating start get to him. But he also grew up considerably this year and showed the talent that has Illinois fans pretty excited. His half-court shot to beat Warren in the sectional semifinals was one of the most dramatic shots in state history in helping the Bulldogs finish second in the state.
2. Brandon Paul (Warren) - if not for his future Illinois teammate's heroics, Paul could have been showing his skills in Peoria last weekend. The sectional final was also a showcase of his ability as he hit clutch shot after clutch shot - including his 3 free throws with 5 seconds left to give the Blue Devils the lead.
3. Drew Crawford (Naperville Central) - Northwestern got a real gem in the multi-talented Crawford, who carried his team to a 27-3 record and the sectional finals. Even though opponents clearly knew he was the man, he still put up big numbers night after night.
