A vote here for Don Levin

Driving to Wrigley Field today, I passed the Allstate Arena and noted the Calder Cup championship won Tuesday night by hockey's Chicago Wolves. The Wolves are an amazing success story in Chicago sports. Born in 1994, they won two championships in the old International Hockey League and two in the American Hockey League. Much of the credit goes to the guys running the hockey operations: GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and coach John Anderson, both of whom belong in the NHL. But much of it also goes to the guy writing the checks: owner Don Levin. What's that have to do with the Cubs? Levin is expected to make a bid on owning the Chicago National League Ball Club, and I can't think of anybody better. As the Wolves beat writer back in the mid- and late-90s, I can tell you Levin treats his players, the media and, most important, the fans, first class all the way. He's honest. He's driven to win. And he and his group will have the dough. Levin's Wolves won championships in the IHL, which was a league dominated by veterans and just a few young kids. The current Wolves are part of a developmental system with a lot of youngsters. So any way you want to win, Levin and his guys get it done. I'd bet Don would get it done in baseball, too. If I had a vote, Levin would get mine.
