Soriano hit by pitch, taken for X-rays

Cubs left fielder Alfonso Soriano was hit on the left hand by a pitch from Atlanta's Jeff Bennett in the second inning of tonight's game at Wrigley Field. Soriano left the game immediately and was en route to a hospital for X-rays. The pitch hit him on the left hand and then bounced up and hit him on the side of the head. The Braves threw at Soriano last year in Atlanta, prompting retaliation by Ted Lilly, who threw at Edgar Renteria, causing Lilly to be ejected in the first inning. Renteria later that night gave Cubs second baseman Mike Fontenot a forearm shiver on a play at the bag, but was not tossed. Last night, Lilly threw one over the head of the Braves' Brian McCann after Greg Norton homered in the first inning. Lilly said he was not intending to hit McCann with a "batting-practice fastball." We'll see what happens the rest of the way.
