Owens heading back to Triple-A
When he was placed on waivers Monday, center fielder Jerry Owens was hoping to be claimed by another major-league team so he could get a fresh start.
Didn’t happen.
Apparently, the 29 other teams in the AL and NL saw the same thing the White Sox did _ not much.
Since he wasn’t scooped up, Owens was outrighted to Class AAA Charlotte Wednesday, the Sox’ top farm club.
Owens, 28, had a disappointing spring, batting .230 with 5 RBI and 3 stolen bases. Now, he’s headed for Year No. 4 at Charlotte with little or no hope of rejoining the White Sox during the season.
It’s a tough situation for Owens, a good guy that never figured it out.
Down in Arizona a couple weeks ago, one scout told me that opposing teams continually pitch Owens inside because he’s got zero power. That’s why you see so many lazy flyballs to the outfield.
Maybe Owens makes some adjustments at Triple-A, but he’s not a kid anymore. Maybe he gets off to a goods start and gets another shot at the Sox’ leadoff spot if Dewayne Wise struggles.
Don’t count on it.

I believe JO is dedicated enough as Dewayne has been to keep on keepn' on and will land a big league gig , probably sometime this year. a very good athlete, speedy and will keep working on his hitting.
