That didn’t take long.
Dewayne Wise dropped to the No. 8 spot in the White Sox’ batting order Thursday after going 0-for-8 (4 strikeouts) in the first two games of the season.
Rookie 2B Chris Getz replaces Wise in the leadoff spot today vs. the Royals, and A.J. Pierzynski is back in the No. 2 hole.
Maybe Wise starts stringing some hits together and maybe he moves back to the top of the order. But given the lightning quick hook, don’t count on it.
On Tuesday, GM Kenny Williams said he’s been trying to find a better leadoff guy, with no luck.
"The easiest thing in the world is to say you have to go out and get a leadoff hitter, get the prototypical guy who can hit you .300 and get on base at .370, steal 50 bases," Williams said. "But when people are pressed to say where are you going to get that guy, it's: 'Don't worry about it; you just go get him.'
"I have to go back in the lab and create that guy. Rest assured, we have been looking for one, and aggressively.
"We've asked about them and tried to get them in tow and that's no slight on Dewayne. You can't create something that's not there, so you make do.”
Williams also said the Sox have no interest in Juan Pierre or Gary Matthews Jr.
