Jack Franks is on the air ...
Springfield staffer Dan Carden monitored WLS this morning and filed this review:
For a man who always has something to say when a microphone is in front of his mouth, state Rep. Jack Franks was unnaturally quiet during his two-hour stint on WLS-AM this morning.
Franks seemed to disappear for long stretches of time and when he did try to talk barely got a word in over co-host Erich “Mancow” Muller. Franks pretty much spoke only when spoken to, which means he did play his role as quiet sidekick effectively.
“He sure is a likeable bloke,” Mancow said of Franks, a Democrat from Marengo.
However, it seems there's little chance WLS will be offering the unnaturally quiet Franks his own radio show, like they did for the always-talking former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Franks, a flamboyant critic of the former governor, did offer faint praise of his political abilities.
"One on one there's not a better retail politician," Franks said of Blagojevich.
Muller asked Franks, who is an attorney, if Franks would represent him if Muller went on a parking meter vandalism spree in Chicago. Franks said yes. Muller blasted the city's higher parking meter fees more than a dozen times during the show
Franks did speak up to challenge show guest Gov. Pat Quinn to blow up the state budget in order to fix it. Rather than just continuing existing programs from year to year, Franks wants to start the entire budget at zero and rebuild it. Quinn was not persuaded.
But Franks was much quieter when Muller interviewed Kim Kardashian, who is mostly famous for being Kim Kardashian. She insisted that while she's “a curvy girl,” she still wears a size 2.
Franks admitted he doesn't know who Kardashian is.
Franks was on the air from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday morning, filling in for the vacationing Pat Cassidy on the “Mancow and Cassidy” show. He goes back to being a state representative on Tuesday.
