The other two DePaul assistants told to go

The other two DePaul assistants told to go

DePaul finally announced on Monday that top assistants Gary DeCesare and Ramon Williams have been asked to leave...the same fate that happened to fellow assistant Scott Wainwright a month ago. All three men had been with Jerry Wainwright at DePaul since he took the job after the 2004-05 season.

Technically, DePaul didn't announce that DeCesare and Williams were asked to leave -- the school's statement indicated that they resigned. Of course, they resigned exactly as much as Joey Meyer resigned in 1997 and Pat Kennedy resigned in 2002.

Right now, I'm searching to find the last time all three assistants for a Division I program were shown the door -- when there haven't been any NCAA violations -- yet the head coach stayed. I'm guessing it's a short list.

Now DePaul is in a tricky spot.

Wainwright needs to find assistants who are good enough to turn around the program swiftly (there are still two scholarships available for 2009-10), yet desperate and/or cocky enough to join his staff knowing that another bad season could end everyone's time at DePaul.

I don't know if former Purdue/Illinois/Kentucky assistant Tracy Webster is desperate and/or cocky enough to sign on with DePaul -- though he's definitely confident in his abilities -- but he might be just the guy who can turn things around for the Demons in the Chicago area.

JLP is a joke

She is pathetic and should resign herself. News flash - this school no longer gives a damn about the men's basketball team. Move on before it kills you.

interesting

anyone who thinks any of the 3 assistants resgined are fooling themselves AND where was JLP was a comment this time? Pretty funny she had been out in the forefront spouting nonsense the past few months but all of a sudden she is unavailable for comment. DePaul basketball is starting to look like the titanic

Calling the shots

Hey Mush et al,

I suppose I shouldn't say that Jerry has the only say in these hirings, but let's be real: It's way more important for a head coach and his assistants to mesh than it is for an AD and the assistants to mesh.

I also probably shouldn't be quite so dramatic as to say that any assistant that signs on is desperate for a job, but let's also be real: If there are available assistants out there with a choice between DePaul and another BCS program, they probably have some real compelling personal reasons to pick the Demons over the other alternative.

Who's calling the shots ??

LW, said " Wainwright needs to find assistants who are good enough to turn around the program swiftly."

Are you sure that it's Jerry that needs to find assistants not JLP ? Who's calling the shots here? Would Jerry fire or tell his son and his assistants to leave ? Can I get another vote of confidence for Jerry ?

who would want this job?

Like Lindsey said, one more bad year and the whole staff is bye-bye! With Dar and maybe Koshwal going pro the Blue Demons look like they might have the same type of year next year as they did this year. This use to be such a proud program and now it's an absolute disgrace. Things need to change and change in a hurry!
