Ramirez dislocates shoulder
MILWAUKEE _ The Cubs suffered a potentially devastating blow tonight when third baseman Aramis Ramirez suffered a dislocated left shoulder. The injury happened when he dived for a groundball off the bat of the Brewers' Ryan Braun in the third inning. Upon hitting the ground, Ramirez immediately threw off his glove and writhed in pain. Braun reached on a single on the play.
Ramirez was taken to the hospital for X-rays.
The 30-year-old Ramirez is arguably the Cubs' best hitter, and it looks like they'll be without him for weeks. He came into tonight's game batting .369 with 4 homers and 16 RBI. He already had missed 9 starts because of a strained left calf.
The Cubs today traded for infielder Ryan Freel. The injury also might buy time for Bobby Scales, who figured to be sent back to Iowa Saturday.
More later and in the paper tomorrow.

This move is looking worse and worse by the minute...did we really think that Miles would replace him as the super sub. Hendry's moves this year are questionable at best.
Ryan Freel will be a fan favorite. he'll dive into the bricks and knock himself out. The man is crazy, and people love tiny Cub players see...Theriot, Fontenot, Augie Ojeda, etc.
If he's got ligament damage at all, and is out longer then 6 weeks....this team is in a BOAT LOAD of trouble. More pressure now to keep Bradley healthy, somehow get Soto to hit, Fukudome to stay consistent, and D-lee/Soriano to carry this team.
Speaking of Soto, he has grounded into more double plays then he has combined homers and rbis. 8 to 4. That is FLAT OUT pathetic.
Why is it that everytime I tune in to watch this team, I get to witness pure agony? Bases loaded and 1 out, no runs. Walk the leadoff guy on 4 pitches, wild pitch, and then a tubed heater that is crushed. That is just flat out pathetic fundamental baseball. Tube one to Corey Hart! Make him HIT his way on base.
Bullpen is unwatchable. I would rather be locked in a room with the Hawk and Farmer then watch any of these guys pitch.
Apparently Marmol was unavailable tonight after pitching in the blowout in Houston last night, so the Cubs lose one they should have won. Of course, the home plate umpire wasn't doing them any favors. Seemed to me that the Brewer pitchers had a much larger strike zone than the Cub pitchers were getting. Oh well, let's hope we aren't 15-20 games back when Ramirez returns.
The way this team is constituted . . . ugh.
Cerainly, no one expected the injuries, and the flat-out garbage from Soto, but the bullpen is awful, there is no depth, and now Piniella is excited about a RH on the bench (Freel). Gee, Lou, maybe if LH wasn't your white whale, you wouldn't have a bunch of LH/SH that only play middle infield and don't hit that well.
(Not saying here)
So, what is a realistic time frame?
Is BearsCubs about right? I know we'll find out more later, but just wondering if anyone's had experience with a dislocation.
I tihnk we'll know more once any x-rays or MRI's are done. Hopefully they popped it back in w/o and ligament or tendon damage. Len just said they don't know the severity of it yet. Guess we'll see, but I would expect at least four weeks.
I'll post something, but about 6 weeks seems about the right time frame.
He looked in so much pain, that I'd take 6 right now if it worked that way . . . .
Bruce,
Did you ever find out the status of Mike Lamb? I know he played third and hit pretty well with the Astros. No substitute for Ramy, but just wondering...thanks.
Looks like he's hitting .088 for Class AAA Buffalo, according to minorleaguebaseball.com.
Wow, that's bad.
Yeah, figured it was that or a broken collar bone. I've broken my clavicle and writhered in pain the same way, so I knew it was one or the other.
We're probably looking at four to six weeks.
