Catching up around the Capitol

Suburban lawmaker’s DUI trial set for next month.
The Springfield paper has the update.

News?
An untrue rumor fueled by a gossip column about an election that’s more than two years away. You could fill a daily newspaper with untrue Jack Franks’ for governor tales.

Targeting pork
First the demise of the $34 billion construction plan, now this.
It just hasn’t been a good year for pork.

We are the champions
Most importantly, the Capitol bureau chiefs beat their reporter interns 22-12 in the traditional softball game.

Goodbye
And a special Animal Farm thanks to Daily Herald intern Amber Krosel (for the last time, it’s pronounced ‘crow-sell’) who’s earned her master’s degree and finished her stint in the statehouse bureau today. Along the way she got the state police to finally talk about the NIU shooter's gun card and why his history of mental illness didn’t raise any red flags, found people who Bill Clinton pardoned now donating to Hillary, slept through an earthquake and learned that you never pay the same price twice for a grilled cheese in the Capitol cafeteria.

Now some newspaper somewhere should snatch her up quickly.

Thanks for all the hard work and great reporting!
