Disappointed in David Letterman
I'm sure everyone's aware of the David Letterman/Sarah Palin feud that's been playing out in the media over the past week. In a nutshell, Letterman made a wisecrack about Palin's daughter, and Palin got her undies in a bundle and made a huge stink about it, probably because that beast will do just about anything to keep herself in the news.
What bothers me the most about this whole fiasco is that Letterman actually felt the need to apologize...TWICE! I am so disappointed in him. I've been watching Dave for many years, and he's made many jokes that were much more off-color than the Palin comment. However, "jokes" is the key word here. Dave Letterman is a comedian, and he's just doing his job...and doing his job very well. For the Palin family to insinuate that Dave is "sexually perverted" and that he made jokes about raping a 14-year-old girl is completely ridiculous and unfair. Some people just take everything too seriously, and it's a real shame.
As for Dave, I guess he's going soft in his old age, because he actually apologized for making a decent joke (or else he's been under a lot of pressure from the network execs upstairs). Either way, it's extremely disappointing.

Point is, Imus got fired for a joke gone bad ...The liberal media went haywire demanding for his termination, yet you give Dave a pass for sexist and indecent humor. Do you see the double standard here? Dave use to be funny, but his show took a political left tilt and its now a bully pulpit, whatever you may think of the Palin family. Plus, I'll defend any family defending their children from attack, be it Obama or Palin.
Of course the Palin's are also taking advantage of this incident- welcome to politics!
FYI- Caucasion can be ho's, and can have nappy hairstyles- your assumtions are racist!
Had ANY comedian made a similar joke about the Obama children there would have been national headlines calling for their head. I agree that Letterman is a comedian and has the right to tell any joke he'd like. However, he must also deal with the consequences of his actions. He should just be thankful that he is an ultra liberal comedian, being covered by an uber liberal media, who happened to tell off color jokes about a conservative Republican's family.
Barack Obama has two little girls who are under 12 years of age and have never been in any trouble. If Barack had a teenage girl who got pregnant out of wedlock, it would be the exact same circumstance, and I would have laughed at the joke just as hard as I did when it was about Bristol Palin.
What are you, a Nappy-Headed Ho or something? Jokes about rape are A- OK, huh? If he called Michelle Obama a slut, what would be the media backlash? Maybe you'll have daughters some day- good luck to you !
David Letterman's comments were definitely not about rape, but your language here is most definitely racist.
I don't care which daughter he was talking about, they're both still kids. Kids who didn't ask their mother to become a national celebrity nor choose a public life. This distinction of whether it was the 14 year old or the 18 year old saying it makes a difference is ridiculous. Just because she is "age of consent" doesn't make it okay to basically call her a slut. Yes, she made a mistake, but from all accounts she's not Paris Hilton/Lindsey Lohan either. If she were uncaring about the publicity and sleeping around with a lot of different people, then it's a different story. Don't forget this girl was in her condition prior to her mother being named as a VP candidate, so it wasn't like she was looking for the spotlight.
I defy any parent to think they would just sit back and laugh at some guy on national TV saying making "jokes" about their daughter getting "knocked up", especially when it didn't refer to the actual event but insinuating that she was putting herself in that position again and again. If it were me, and I had the chance, I would have planted a fist in his face to see if he thought that was funny. 14 year old or 18 year old doesn't make a difference, they're both still kids. To me that's off limits unless they are actually looking for attention and knowingly doing stupid things to gain the spotlight. That was not the case here.
Sarah Palin chose her path and is fair game, no matter what your politics, same as Obama, Biden, McCain, etc. but uninvolved family members should not be.
I can understand politicians being upset when their kids get dragged into the media. However, I still don't understand why Letterman's joke generated such a massive reaction. When the news originally broke that Bristol Palin was pregnant, there must have been millions of jokes uttered about her on television, but Sarah Palin chose to freak out over this particular one.
Also, it would be one thing if the Palins came out and just generally condemned Dave for making wisecracks about their daughter, but they claimed that Dave was joking about child rape and proclaimed him to be a "sexual pervert." In my opinion, Dave has more of a right to be furious over those comments than the Palins have to be pissed about yet another teen pregnancy joke.
