Capitol whine ...

Republicans have rightfully complained that the ruling Democrats have made a mockery of state finances. Well, now Republicans have a seat at the table because their votes are needed to pass any budget. So far nothing's happened. Lawmakers left town yesterday and are due back next week, just hours before the state starts a new budget year with now budget.
Some Republicans expressed outrage that members were going home when so little had been done and so much remained to be done. But one statewide GOP hopeful apparently had other plans. Here's the email we received for a GOP fundraiser last night. Nothing says plight of the common taxpayer more than imported wine and cheese on a Chicago rooftop.

COME BEAT THE HEAT WITH WINE AND CHEESE

Join the 42nd Ward GOP on a beautiful rooftop at 500 N. Dearborn St. for a wine tasting. Svenson Law Offices will be hosting the event in Suite 1200. The large deck has a beautiful skyline view. Come sample the wines of Spain, South America, and France. We'll have multiple wine stations and cheese to compliment each selection. State Representative and Candidate for Lieutenant Governor Dave Winters will be our featured guest. The event starts at 6pm.

We'll also serve a wonderful selection of cheeses to compliment each wine. The cost of the event is $50 for non-members and $35 for 42nd Ward GOP members.
