Early Sunday weather report at The Cell
If you have bleacher seats today, then make sure to bring your glove. The flags are whipping straight out, which means this hitters' paradise figures to be even moreso today.
(In an unrelated note, there was already a quartet of dudes in Parking Lot C playing bags and drinking beers at 9:15 a.m. I asked them when they started drinking. They replied, "Last night.")
If there's one thing that can save everyone from a homer-happy Sunday, it's Carlos Zambrano's solid home-run ratio. He has surrendered just 6 bombs in 77.2 IP this season.
Sox starter John Danks, on the other hand, has coughed up 11 homers in 81.1 IP. That's the primary reason his ERA has jumped from last year's stellar 3.32 to this year's 4.43. Last season, Danks was tagged for just 15 homers in 195 innings.
Just for the math-impaired (and to allow me to take a tax writeoff on my calculator), here are those numbers put another way:
2008 Danks: 1 homer every 13.0 innings. ERA of 3.32
2009 Danks: 1 homer every 7.1 innings. ERA of 4.43
2009 Zambrano: 1 homer every 13.0 innings. ERA of 3.48
2005-08 Zambrano: 1 homer every 10.1 innings. ERA of 3.62
OK, one more check of the flags. Yep, still blowing out.
