Zambrano's tired act

Zambrano's tired act

Posted by scotgreg on Sun, 06/28/2009 - 15:21

Ozzie is usually right on, but I never understood why he always goes out of his way to defend Carlos Zambrano.
Yes, they are both from Venezuela, but the Cubs' starter has continually crossed the line during his career and he did it again Sunday.
After Chris Getz stole home in the Sox' 2-run sixth, Zambrano drilled Dewayne Wise with the next pitch.
Ozzie kept his cool, but White Sox players like Jim Thome and A.J. Pierzysnki looked like they were ready to rumble before cooler heads prevailed.
It's OK to show some passion on the field, but Zambrano always seems to take it too far.
And thanks to his decision to hit Wise, Ryan Freel paid the price when he was hit by John Danks leading off the seventh.

No swearing on the blog

We can agree. We can disagree. We can agree to disagree. But no foul langage on the blog, please, even when quoting others. Those posts will be removed.

Scott - he called your bluff

Wow, Scott...he gave you the examples that you requested and now you have nothing more to say on it. Interesting.

This type of story...

...is also sad and predicatable.

Will the DH Sox (home) beat writer be watching the Sox game tonight from his kitchen or TV room?

Z

If this guy wasn't making millions to keep him somewhat out of trouble off the field can you imagine how long it would take him to end up in prison if he didn't play baseball. I predict a sad ending to this story a year or two after he retires.

Pot meet kettle

You write this nonsense when the manager you cover says some of the dumbest things imaginable. While Zambrano's act might be tired, what words would you use for Ozzie's?

Posted by RonB on Mon, 06/29/2009 - 08:56
Ozzie talks a lot...

and always has. But give me some examples on saying "some of the dumbest things."
And you are missing the point about my original Zambrano post yesterday.
You can say anything you want, freedom of speech you know, within reason.
My problem with Zambrano is he doesn't respect the game. Go back and watch the sixth inning of Sunday's game again and tell me I'm wrong.
If that was just an isolated incident, I'd leave it alone. But "Big Z" always seems to be going over the edge.
Just play the game and leave the tantrums where they belong, in Little League.

Are you kidding?

What sort of beat writer are you? You need examples?

"What a piece of _____ he is, f____ing f__." "He's a garbage. He's always been a garbage. And he will die a garbage." - about Jay Mariotti
"He's a piece of ____” - about Magglio

Scot, if these were isolated incidents, I'd leave them alone. But, Ozzie always seems to be going over the edge. My problem with Ozzie is that he doesn't respect the game. Or respect any of us who are parents and have to constantly explain why this adult can't get through a sentence without swearing.

The reason Ozzie and Carlos are best buddies is because they are strikingly similar - talented men with hot tempers and no idea of when to think before speaking. Try being less of a homer and quit babying Ozzie when you attack Zambrano.

Ozzie comments

You are the beat writer for the sox and don't know any of Ozzie's dumb comments? Wow.

1. Calling a writer a f*g
2. I don't remember the exact comment, but I think he said some pretty bad things about Magglio Ordonez
3. Questioning Alex Rodriguez motives for playing or not playing in the WBC
4. The non-stop jabs at Cub fans and Wrigley Field

Those are a few that come to mind. He comes across as petty, jealous and wanting the story to be about him. Why don't you hold him to a higher standard of conduct during his pre-game and post-game rants?

I am not defending Zambrano's actions and I wish he would control himself. But I don't think anyone covering the Ozzie Guillen should talk about being tired of someone else's act.

And yet there is Ozzie with

And yet there is Ozzie with that WS ring. Find me a Cub manager alive that is wearing a Cub's WS ring and you might have something. Ozzie uses his profoundness to cajole his team. When the Sox beat the Dodgers in the series finale, instead of being happy with a win, he let his resident slacker know he wasn't happy. I think the slacker played a fine game yesterday. When he jabs at the poor fan base at Wrigley and at the park itself, he's deflecting stuff from the media towards himself. Someone that doesn't have to worry about playing a game that week. He makes mistakes, but I'll take Ozzie over any manager the Cubs have ever had. Learned from several of the best particularly Bobby Cox. And it shows in the type of game the Sox play.

A trade ??

Hey, we could trade Zambrano to the Rangers for Vincente Padilla? One head case for another, but Padilla is cheaper :)

Sorry....

but why is it that whenever a player gets beaned its automatically intentional?

I mean this is Zambrano we're talking about, control and command aren't really his strengths. That combined with his lack of focus....the ball could go anywhere.

**edit**
this is the same guy that threw a wild pitch on a pitch out by the way....was that intentional? or is he just a lunatic that can't control his location?

bs, zambrano is a poor sport

bs, zambrano is a poor sport ! a cry baby ! he threw that pitch knowing he was gonna hit wise, the first time a mistake, the second, just shows how classless he really is. Im glad they rocked him today, instead of big Z , it should be big B, for baby. GO WHITE SOXS !!!!

Posted by lokks on Sun, 06/28/2009 - 23:41
YES AND....

I am no Sox fan but I agree completely. Zambrano is immature, hot headed, lacking in discipline and clueless. Of late it has been hard to pull for the Cubs. My dislike of Sammy So-so is unparalleled. Now Sorry Soriano, Milton Bradley, the professional patient/ headcase, and Big Z (as in zero class) make me hold my nose.

Hey corporate mouthpiece

The Sox can issue their own press releases. Stick to reporting. It's bad enough you two share a blog so I have to read the Sox stuff along with the Cubs stuff. Don't start bashing.

Corporate mouthpiece?

You're as funny as Zambrano is sad.

What about Ozzie?

Scot- are you kidding? You can't criticize Zambrano without indicting your boy Ozzie as well. They are the same - they run their mouth without thinking. I know you write for the Herald, so I'll try to use small words. Check your history - your favorite manager sent a guy to the minors because he wouldn't hit an opposing player in retaliation. And you say Zambrano is a tired act? Not as tired as your poor attempt at journalism -- and your 80's haircut.

Cub fan here

And I agree with you, Scot. It's the same old garbage from Zambrano.
