Another Kirk opponent?

Another Kirk opponent?

Illinois Republican Party Chairman Andy McKenna has backed off his potential Senate bid, saying he won't run if U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk finally pulls the trigger.
But that doesn't mean Kirk will have a clear GOP primary to save strength and money to take on a Democrat in the general election.
For one, state Rep. Jim Durkin, a Western Springs Republican, is debating a second run for Senate.
Durkin is upset with Kirk's vote for cap-and-trade legislation, a key element of President Barack Obama's agenda and favorite target of conservatives.
"I think he is going to regret that vote," Durkin said today.
Kirk has faced heat from the party for weeks on that vote, but several GOP representatives and party brass still see him as the best chance for the Republicans to win the seat and cut back the Democrat's 60-vote super majority.
Durkin says he is "not interested nor disinterested" in a run, but adds "If I decided I wanted to run for statewide office I feel comfortable I could put together a team."
Most recently, Durkin headed up Sen. John McCain's Illinois campaign. He also ran unsuccessfully for Senate in 2002 against Sen. Dick Durbin, a Springfield Democrat.
"I still have a lot of good will left," Durkin said of voters.
Durkin has also played a role in the drama that was Roland Burris' appointment. Durkin questioned Burris before the House impeachment panel about his efforts to lobby for the position.
Burris' answers to those questions later became the basis for accusations the former attorney general lied under oath. It was later revealed Burris lobbied hard for the post and tried to raise money for the governor, which he didn't tell lawmakers.
Durkin did take some insider heat, however, for not being more aggressive and precise in that questioning.
Durkin's potential foray into another statewide bid, meanwhile, would be surprising. He has made clear for years that he didn't enjoy his failed run against Durbin and had no plans to re-live the slaughter.
"I'm never running for a federal office again the rest of my life," Durkin said when asked if he could beat Burris on MSNBC's 'Hardball with Chris Matthews' earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Kirk says he will make an announcement about his political ambitions "very soon." McKenna issued a statement Monday saying he would not run if Kirk entered the race.

Alan Keyes

Why don't we get Alan Keyes to run again? That worked well.

Eric Wallace

I agree with Kevin. I'll vote for Dr. Wallace because he's a conservative.

Let's not kid ourselves

Jim Durkin is an empty suit. He's done nothing but go along to get along while the IL GOP crumbled. He's never stood up for reform, or to any of the IL GOP's corrupt players. He's typically been their lap dog.

Let's face it. Jim Durkin has one asset in this Blue state. His last name kinda sounds like "Durbin."

Durkin's core voting block is the confused elderly voter.
