"Harry Potter and the Half-***ed Film"

I took a half-day off of work to see "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," and I was majorly disappointed. The movie kind of sucked! Check out my review and let me know what you thought of the film!

Calm down

Ok I saw the movie this weekend. I have to agree it did leave a lot out of the movie that really should have been there. The movie's title is The Half-blood Prince, but there was no explaination of who that could have been and then they spring it on you during the last five minutes so there is no reason as to why snape is the half-blood prince. It was an ok movie, not what were are normally used to for the Harry Potter films. I was disappointed but all I can do is hope the next will be better and move on from there. The movie left a lot to be desired but like I said there is no reason to get upset about it and say mean things to others.

I agree with Melissa's review

For those who hadn't read the books, a lot wouldn't make sense - like Tonks and Lupin being together. It wasn't explained at all in the movie.

There are a lot of plot points that were changed that really changed the story. To me, the worst was the "fight scene" at the end where Harry doesn't fight simply because Dumbledore and then Snape told him not to. Completely out of character -- Harry being stunned is much more plausible. He comes across in that scene as cowardly - and that's not what the character is.

Way too harsh

I know the books are beloved, and I've read them all multiple times myself.

But you cannot expect the movie to be a perfect adaptation of the book. That's what Chris Columbus did (see 1st & 2nd movie) and frankly, they were rather lame -- faithful and lifeless. Judge it as a MOVIE, not as a BOOK.

I thought it was brilliant, myself. I did wish a bit for the funeral scene, but the whole Harry telling Ginny he has to protect her is way too Spiderman, frankly. They were all raising their wands in solitude, dispersing the Dark Mark -- I totally teared up.

You can't expect the movie to be everything the book was. It never will be, the books are way too complex. As a movie, it was very well done, dark and twisty and with just enough humor.

I didn't expect the film to

I didn't expect the film to be exactly like the book. I understand that certain things don't transfer well from the printed page to the big screen, and I also realize that material needs to be cut from the book in order to fit into a 2.5-hour movie. However, when they change things just for the sake of changing them, or mess with things that are at the absolute core of the series, that's when I get upset.

Huh?

They may have left out your favorite scenes, but you sound like a 13 year old who's upset that she didn't get to see Ginny and Harry making out more. Cause he's totally dreamy and stuff. Yes, I would've liked to see a little more of this and a little less of that, but me not getting my way doesn't make it a bad film -- it just means I'm not the director. Fancy that.

To use an analogy you'll understand, if a copy editor changes one of your favorite lines in an article because it makes the story fit the space given -- or makes the article flow better -- that's their right as a copy editor, who tend to know what they're doing. Yates has proven himself a competent director, worlds above Chris Columbus, and it's a great movie.

No, you are an imbecile who

No, you are an imbecile who is making excuses for this disgustingly horrible movie. Do you know how many people have read the books? A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE READ THE BOOKS. Most people realize that the best parts of the books have been cut. Which is one thing, but to add completely irrelevant scenes and slow takes to this "film" for no apparent reason is insulting to all those fans who came to see the books on screen. The movie was called Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. There was no build up to why the half blood prince was important. He helped harry, fine, but did we get to see Harry vs Snape in dark arts class?

The picture was visually stunning, but the story was garbage. They changed things just to change them. I liked the first two films, I agree that they probably clung closer to the books than was necessary, but the solution isn't to go in the opposite direction and make your own storyline thats far worse than the one JK rowling had.

Your review, and your opinion, Melissa, were 100% correct. I personally was angry at having been tricked by the commercials into believing this movie had anything to do with the books I read. Next time, I'll wait for it to come out on video. But I'm not optimistic at all. What a waste of a reasonably talented cast.

Excuse me...

You do not have to agree with my opinion, that is for sure...

but by calling me an imbecile, you're displaying your own angry immaturity. Chill out. I was disagreeing with Melissa's review, but that doesn't mean you have to take it personally.
