Kirk hit on health care

A pro-health care reform group, substantially backed by the powerful union AFSCME, launched an offensive today against U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk, a Highland Park Republican running for U.S. Senate.
The TV ad implies Kirk is not supporting President Barack Obama's government-run health insurance plan because of large donations from the health insurance industry. It also blasts him for having good health insurance as a congressman while refusing to go along with Obama's proposal.
It is one of six such adds running in targeted areas across the country as part of a $650,000 effort.
“These Republicans on Capitol Hill are working for the insurance industry, not the American people,” said AFSCME International President Gerald W. McEntee in a news release announcing the ad buy. “They are putting profits ahead of people, and the voters need to know it. Congress has to make real reform happen – Americans can’t wait for reform that guarantees quality, affordable health care for all.”
Kirk isn't shy about his stance against Obama's plan. It might play well in a GOP primary in which he is already on the defensive for other votes that fell along more Democratic lines.
But this is the first introduction of Kirk in a TV ad since he has been a Senate candidate.
The ad is playing in the Chicago market, where voters have seen attack ads against Kirk before during his two fierce battles to hold the North suburban 10th District.
