And so it begins...
(From the gubernatorial campaign of state Sen. Matt Murphy of Palatine, who is often overshadowed on the crowded GOP trail. It should also be noted the sales tax hike Dillard supported was also backed by another GOP candidate for governor, DuPage County Board Chairman Bob Schillerstrom.)

Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Senator Matt Murphy Launches First Television Ad of Campaign on Republican Day at State Fair
Calls Opponent Dillard a Tax & Spend Insider

SPRINGFIELD – Republican Candidate Senator Matt Murphy (R- Palatine) has launched the first television advertisement of the campaign on "Republican Day" at the Illinois State Fair. The sixty second spot outlines Murphy's plan for revitalizing the economy through job creation, cutting taxes and reining in state spending, the very issues he believes Republicans will win on next year. The ad contrasts Murphy's record as a fiscal conservative with one primary opponent, Senator Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale), whose votes have contributed to the state's financial woes. In 2008, Dillard voted to raise the sales tax in Cook County as well as the collar counties and in 2003 he voted to give then Governor Rod Blagojevich $10 billion in bond borrowing. The ad also calls the Hinsdale Senator a "long-time insider" highlighting his 30 years in state government, a point Dillard himself is making on the campaign trail. Click here to view the ad.

"Illinois needs a Governor who is committed to creating jobs, reducing taxes on families and businesses and reining in state spending," said Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Senator Matt Murphy. "The Springfield business as usual attitude that has dominated this state for decades has cost us jobs and I am the only candidate who has the record to put us on a path to economic prosperity."

Excerpts from the Television Ad

"For years, politicians in Springfield taxed and spent us to the brink of bankruptcy, and made us the punch line of national jokes. Nobody here is laughing."

"I fought for your job by writing legislation to cut taxes, pushing spending cuts, and demanding ethical leadership at the top."

"Incredibly, one of my Republican opponents even joined Todd Stroger to raise taxes on families and backed Blagojevich's $10 billion spending spree. As a long-time insider, he just went along with it. I never will."

Republicans used the RTA vote last fall against Democrats. It's only right that they apply the same standard to their own members who voted with the evil Democrats for the RTA tax hike.
