St. Joseph and the ESCC

The landscape of East Suburban Catholic Conference boys basketball would certainly be different without St. Joseph and Gene Pingatore, now the winningest boys coach in IHSA history. So is St. Joseph looking to move elsewhere - possibly the Chicago Catholic League - after this year.
"Not at this point," St. Joseph athletic director Bruce DeSanto said Tuesday afternoon. "We're exploring other athletic alternatives but there's nothing definite at this point."
So it sounds as if the Chargers could be on the move somewhere - possibly where they believe their other sports would be more competitive. Basketball is the sport synonymous with St. Joseph (Isiah Thomas, Tony Freeman, Daryl Thomas, etc...), although football seems headed in the right direction with the stability finally brought by third-year head coach Mark Zavagnin.
DeSanto did say of the ESCC: "It's a great conference. The conference is terrific."
Stay tuned.
