Hynes leaves reporters wanting more
updated
Hynes just called to I guess clarify or kinda apologize for the way the news conference ended and see what other questions I had. He said the layout of the room made it difficult to determine if reporters were finished and noted he's always been known to take time to address media questions.
Enough about my ruffled feathers, here's a little more detail on his proposed tax brackets that he wants voters to approve via a constitutional amendment in November.
Household income --
under $200,000 would stay at the 3 percent income tax rate.
between $200,000 and $300,000 would be taxed at 3.5 percent
between $300,000 and $500,000 would be taxed at 5.5 percent
between $500,000 and $1 million would be taxed at 7 percent
over $1 million would be taxed at 7.5 percent
The tax is on the increment over $200,000 as opposed to someone going from $199,999 to $200,000 and suddenly getting hit with a big tax whallop.
Hynes said someone making $300,000 would expect to see an increase of $500 but that increase would be $4,500 under Gov. Pat Quinn's across-the-board increase to 4.5 percent. The main difference is Hynes tax is on the increment above $200,000.

And not in a good way.
Dan Hynes had a Springfield appearance where he repeated his budget and tax presentation from his morning event in Chicago. He took a few questions -- probably 10 to a dozen -- and then declared the event over and walked out even as reporters kept asking questions about his plan. The questions quickly turned to why he wouldn't answer more questions. No answers. Hynes just kept walking.
This wasn't like the Blagojevich availabilities where reporters would start asking about subpoenas five minutes into an event intended to tout puppy rescue shelters.
Nope, all the questions were about his tax increase and budget plan. One second he was there, the next he wasn't.
Keep in mind this was Day 1 of his formal campaign for governor.
