Bears cut list at 18 -- 3 more to go
We’re up to 18 players who have been informed by the Bears that they will be cut, although the club will not confirm any of the moves and won’t make an official statement until sometime around the 5 p.m. (Chicago time) Saturday deadline when NFL rosters must be at 53.
The most recent additions to the list are cornerbacks Woodny Turenne, Rudy Burgess and Marcus Hamilton, safety Dahna Deleston, fullback Will Ta’ufo’ou and offensive linemen Cody Balogh and Johan Asiata.
Earlier 11 players were identified, including wide receiver Brandon Rideau, who had an 18-yard TD catch in the preseason finale Thursday night and finished the preseason with 4 catches for 43 yards.
The 6-foot-3, 198-pound Rideau spent parts of 2006 and '08 on the Bears' practice squad, appeared in two games last season and was on the active roster for one game in '07.
That list also included veteran guard Dan Buenning and linebacker Darrell McClover, a Bears special-teams standout the previous three seasons, cornerback Rod Hood, fullback Jason Davis, defensive end Joe Clermond, wide receiver Eric Peterman from Northwestern, linebackers Kevin Malast, Mike Rivera and fifth-round pick Marcus Freeman, and center Donovan Raiola.
With injured backup running back Kevin Jones expected to be placed on injured reserve, three additional players have to be trimmed by the deadline. The Bears have not informed the league of any cuts yet, and they are not expected to make them official until after Saturday's deadline.
