From a news release ...

At its monthly meeting the Milton Township Republican Central Committeemen’s Organization unanimously passed a resolution opposing the installation of Video Poker machines in municipalities in Milton Township.

Milton Township Chairman Mike Formento said, “The 109 member organization wants to be on record opposing Video Poker Machines. We believe strongly that Video Poker machines are not consistent with our desire to maintain a family-friendly environment in DuPage County.”

Formento further emphasized “The installation of Video Poker machines will introduce the potential for gambling addiction, opportunities for corruption and has the ability to change the quality of life we have enjoyed here in our county.”

“We urge all of the municipalities, which include Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, and portions of Naperville, Lombard, Glendale Heights, and Carol Stream, which are part of Milton Township, to pass appropriate ordinances prohibiting the installation of video poker machines in their towns” Formento said.

A copy of our resolution will be forwarded to the Mayors of the aforementioned communities.

Berniem, how do you benefit

Berniem, how do you benefit if video gambling machines are allowed in neighborhoods? You are obviously involved somehow since you comment on this issue continuously. Since you're not a gambler, you claim, you may not know that gamblers ALREADY have the choice of playing video gambling machines at nine Illinois casinos.

How on earth could regulators, who are already short-handed to regulate nine casinos, possibly regulate as many as 15,000 locations? You must be dreaming. You have reels spinning in your head so that it's not working properly.

Counties and municipalities that are banning gambling machines are proving that many adults do NOT want their neighborhood bars and restaurants ruined by the intrusion of gambling machines.

What hypocracy. Get rid of

What hypocracy. Get rid of the Lottery and I will believe that you are concerned about a family friendly township. The overwhelming majority of adults value the option of how to spend their entertainment budget. We are tired of governments limiting our freedom of choice. The State legislators overwhelmingly passed Video Gaming. I am sure that it was not their first option. However, in this tough economic times, what is better.....ramming more taxes down the entire population's throat, or a completely voluntary user tax on video poker that when installed, will be as well regulated as our riverboats??? It is a complete no-brainer. Video poker will help pay for 439,000 jobs, raise revenues for capital construction projects, and will help small businesses stay alive.
