Quick college hoops roundup
Three things for the weekend and beyond:
1) Port Washington, Wis., point guard Josh Gasser chose Wisconsin over Northwestern and Northern Iowa.
The upshot: The Wildcats hoped to team the 6-foot-4 Gasser with new four-star recruit Jershon Cobb, a 6-4 wing player from Decatur, Ga. Instead, Gasser gets the scholarship that Bolingbrook's Diamond Taylor wasted when he was caught burglarizing a UW dorm.
2) UIC suspends senior point guard Spencer Stewart indefinitely for a violation of team rules.
The upshot: The Flames are used to playing without Stewart, though it's normally because of injuries. If Stewart's suspension lingers into the season, then junior Robo Kreps and sophomore Zavion Neely will have to hold down the point. This makes the Flames' rebuilding season even more problematic.
3) Tickets for the Chicago Invitational Challenge went on sale at 12 p.m. Friday.
The upshot: If you want to see eight games of Div. I basketball at the UIC Pavilion on Nov. 27-28 -- including the first meeting between Northwestern and Notre Dame since 1984 -- use a Ticketmaster outlet or get to the UIC Pavilion box office. Tickets range from $42 to $82.
Here are the teams involved: Northwestern, Notre Dame, Iowa State, Saint Louis, Liberty, Mississippi Valley State, Tennessee State and Kennesaw State.
