When did raping a child become acceptable behavior?
I'm still in shock that Roman Polanski was actually arrested. I, along with the rest of the world's population, just assumed this man would get away with statutory rape forever, which made no sense to me. How is it possible that a man had sex with a 13-year-old girl, and everyone just seemed to look the other way? Polanski has continued to work and thrive in Europe, and it seems like someone just finally came to their senses and arrested him in Switzerland. Now Polanski is fighting the extradition charge and acting like an innocent man--even though he plead guilty to the statutory rape charges! It's true that the crime occurred more than 30 years ago, but does that make it okay for this guy to walk? What do you think?

This is all because of Polanski's celebrity status, coupled with the fact that the crime occurred so many years ago. For some reason, people have a very short memory. Mel Gibson and Michael Richards are still Hollywood outcasts because of their racist and anti-Semitic comments from a few years back, but Roman Polanski rapes a little girl and receives a standing ovation at the Oscars a few years ago. What gives?!
If this case involved people with no celebrity or fame, there would be no question as to what needed to be done. Rape is a crime, whether the victim is 20 or 30 yrs older and wants to drop the charges. He was convicted and he needs to complete his penalty/punishment, just like any other person.
I'm sure that families of murder victims would want charges to be dropped or sentences to be ignored because the "case was 30 yrs ago." Yeah, right.
What kind if message is this sending to people and young developing minds today?
Step up to the plate Roman and do the right thing.
