The Gould standard
Robbie Gould has become so incredibly accurate that it’s almost a shock when he misses a field goal.
Gould’s missed 53-yarder Sunday at Seattle snapped a streak of 14 straight successful kicks, dating back to Nov. 9, 2008, when he had a 48-yard attempt blocked. Gould converted 26 of 29 FG attempts last season, but 2 of his 3 “misses” were blocked. Before Sunday, the last time Gould actually got a kick past the line of scrimmage that didn’t go through the uprights was more than a year ago, on Sept. 21, 2008.
Since last season, Gould is 19-for-19 on FG attempts under 40 yards and 77-for-81 from inside the 40 in his five-year NFL career.
Despite Sunday’s miss, Gould is still the third-most-accurate kicker in NFL history at 85.7 percent (114 of 133).
Not bad for an undrafted free agent who was cut by the Patriots and Ravens before hooking up with the Bears three games into the 2005 season.

Totally agree.
Two games in a row Gould has out kicked the other teams field goal kicker. Two games in a row the Bears could have lost but for superior field goal attempts.
The Bears special teams coach flat out knows what he is doing.
a kicker missing long kicks really doesnt have much to do with the special temas coach unless the kick is blocked. Second, robbie gould has never made a kick of 50 yards, keep that in mind. So its not as if the blocking up front has been so superior because a kick hasnt been blocked. Its because they know gould doesnt have the leg and thereofre they dont go over 50 yards. They are a good unit, but in that regard the coach makes little difference. If the coach is so great, why not get hester back to top returner form?
