""I'd have to think about it real hard and my wife will weigh in on that matter," Stroger said."

While most Republicans are aghast at rising taxes at the state level, in Naperville local officials aren't so worried as they look to hike their own.
"Councilmen Jim Boyajian, Grant Wehrli, Kenn Miller, Robert Fieseler, Paul Hinterlong and Judy Brodhead all presented scenarios that include creating a sales tax of at least 0.25 percent, which would generate $4 million." Councilmen also floated a gas tax hike.

Senate candidate Mark Kirk holds yet another town hall on health care, pushing a counter plan likely to go nowhere. He also backs troop surge in Afghanistan.
"I hope we keep the momentum up," said the Naval Reserve officer who served briefly in the country last year.

Kane County officials grapple with red ink, but at least they have reserves to help.
