Here is a look at political news of import in the suburbs today:

Work on Des Plaines' casino, the state's tenth, will not likely start until next year.
Meanwhile, Des Plaines' village budget is drowning in red ink.

Cook County board members take stand against legalizing video gambling machines in bars and restaurants. But they can only stop them in unincorporated parts of the county. At the same time, Naperville has moved to ban the 'crack cocaine of gambling' as well.
"The city had estimated it would have received about $11,250 in revenue from each establishment that chose to install the video gambling machines. There are about 125 eligible bars, restaurants and fraternal organizations in Naperville."

Layoffs are now on the table for the Kane County Sheriff's office.
"We're going to have to sit down with (the sheriff). It's going to involve getting into his personnel and having that discussion."

Activist Rob Sherman is in the news again, debating a recall provision in Buffalo Grove.

Looks like suburban growth is continuing despite the economy in far north Grayslake .
"Expected to be built over the next 12 years at Peterson and Alleghany roads are industrial, office and research facilities blended in with retail and residential components. Alter representatives estimate Cornerstone's cost at $818 million."

Is Brian McPartlin, former tollway director, backing out of politics completely? And Christine Cegelis is staying in the game.
"Meanwhile, it is expected that Christine Cegelis, who ran for Congress twice in the 6th District now represented by Republican Peter Roskam of Wheaton, will file to run for the township Democratic post."

Des Plaines has had a city
