Harris appears doubtful

Unless he’s a quick-change artist, defensive tackle Tommie Harris is not practicing with the Bears today, leaving him little chance, if any, to play in Sunday’s game against the Bengals in Cincinnati.

The three-time Pro Bowler was not on the field inside the Walter Payton Center during the brief media-viewing portion of practice but was dressed in sweats and seated on a bench near the practice field.

Harris rarely practices on Wednesdays because of a chronically sore left knee, but he has not practiced all week and appears doubtful, at best, for Sunday, although he could still be on the field if his situation improves. He has not officially been ruled out for Sunday’s game. The official injury report is due out at 3 p.m.

The former first-round draft pick missed two games last season, one because of the knee and another when he was suspended by the Bears for conduct detrimental to the team. According to the Bears’ stats, Harris is 12th on the team with 9 tackles this season.

Time to waive Tommie Harris

His contract is criminal for the caliber of player he has devolved into. I think the knee is irreversibly messed up. I also think Tommie took the money from his new contract and retired in place. Regardless the reason he is a liability more than an asset.
