Ladd ejected early in first period

Ladd ejected early in first period

The Blackhawks lost left winger Andrew Ladd 3:48 into Friday’s game against Montreal when he was ejected for elbowing the Canadiens’ Matt D’Agostini.
In addition to his game misconduct, Ladd received a five-minute major penalty for elbowing and a minor for roughing when Montreal’s Kyle Chipchura challenged him. Chipchura got four minutes for roughing.
D'Agostini had to be helped off the ice to the dressing room.
Too bad D’Agostini wasn’t Willie Mitchell, huh?

A hit to the head might cost him

The league is so erratic on who they suspend and why that there's no telling what they'll do here. But because Ladd isn't a superstar like Ovechkin, because there have been so many of these types of hits recently, and because he nailed the guy in the head on the follow through, he'll probably get a game or two. His saving grace might be that the ref kicked him out right at the beginning of the game last night and the league could consider that a one game suspension and call it a day.

SC39 - Huet made some nice stops last night and definitely saved Barker's arse when he stopped a 3 on 1 blast that Barker created with about 8 minutes left. I'm not ready to drink any Huet fruit punch yet but he's only given up four goals in the last four games and I'll take that anytime. I did like what I saw of Price though. His stickhandling is a real weapon and he looks very confident out there, although based on his early season stats he's had a few problems.

if the refs can take 5 min.

if the refs can take 5 min. to look at an obvious goal to confirm it, why can't they take a look at the hit to see if ladd left his feet BEFORE he made contact and if he indeed did use his elbow. then they would have determined it was clean.

i was watching "on the fly" last week, and the guys were discussing all of the big hits that have laid guys out already this year (with video of course), and big hits have happened since. it's not like this is the first big hit since this issue has come to the surface. i think the only reason ladd got the gate is because this is becomming an issue. so if he gets suspended for leveling a clean hit, and it was perceived he left his feet to deliver the hit, i'd be pissed if i were the hawks. they're already down enough forwards as it is. and heading to the west coast to play teams with some mamoth goons, ouch.

Watch

Ladd will get a 1 game suspension. The issue of 'head hunting' has been circulating in the NHL enough for the refs to issue a match penalty last night, and Colin has to 'make up' for the last incident that does not sit well with PR types.
Another thing about the refs: Remember, they don't have hi-def, slow-mo. They all thought they saw Ladd leave his skates. Nevermind it was a fraction of a second after the hit and the elbows were out to maintain balance / NOT to hit the player.

Huet and Toughness

Huet played well except for the second goal, that is obvious. There is no excuse for that goal to be scored but I also take exception to Campbell and Keith easing up at the end of the period (I am pretty sure they were the two D on the ice). Both had the opportunity to guide Moen towards the boards and prevent him from doing anything. It doesn't change the fact that there is no reason Huet should let that in but there is other blame as well.

I think the refs wanted to call something because of how big Ladd's hit was. He sure didn't elbow the guy but they felt they had to call something. I would agree that it seems like the Hawks get the short end of the stick when it comes to calls like that. We get guys knocked out or around (not counting Toews in this because that hit was prefectly fine) but the refs will turn a blind eye. Even with those hits coming at us I still don't want to see a goon on the team. There is a big difference in a Probert or Secord then a Boogaard. Boogaard only plays 4 minutes a night. If there is a guy that can play a consistent shift while doing that job then I say we could use that. I am not sure that someone like Carcillo or Jamal Mayers is available. Not exactly big heavy weights but still guys that can do that job and play the game.

hit totally legal but!!!

like when toews was hit also totally clean, you don't let your captian get run in your own building...the canadiens, i guarantee you if georges laraque was dressed would have called andrew ladd out had he not been ejected. this is the type of player the hawks need to find(a sherriff to ride shotgun on the bench to afford your skill players some protection) that is plain old tyme hockey! yes even in today's sissified game! do any of you older hawk fans think for 1 minute that al secord would have let denis savard get rung up? you all know the answer! NO! ben eager is 1 more concussion away from being knocked out of hockey, which we all hope does not happen....so my point being is i hope stan bowman addresses this soon ! like it sucks seing toews sitting out.....had derek boogard been wearing the indianhead ,willie mitchell would have did the old poke check instead of ringing up johnny, same probably with andrew tonite?when opposing players know that the other team has a policeman on their bench it certainly makes some of them think twice! that is what we call letting the players police their own game, which is what the nhl needs to go back to! speaking of boogard...he's available and probably would only cost the hawks a draft pick! boy would the kiddies love to have a big daddy like that! so would the fans! just like having bob probert again..........lastly we're going to the coast soon, so one night you'll get shelley, then parros, then ivanins!think stan is listening, probably not, he'll look for another ballerina instead!

The Ladd monster hit was

The Ladd monster hit was legal. Shoulder to shoulder. The Canadian player had his head up.

The refs reacted to the thunderous impact.

Having said that, the Hawks will be a dominant team when healthy.

Ease up on Huet

Through the last four games he has a save pct of .956% and has let in 3 goals. The bank shot off his pad and skate is his weak side and teams know it. But our guys need to be clearing the crease, too. He's come back challenging more than he was the first few games. We aren't capitalizing on our pp, we're taking (and receiving) some bad penalties, and still winning. Sit back and enjoy the ride that's our season, and be thankful for some timely stops and timely scoring!

....

I don't get it. That Andrew Ladd hit was totally legal. 'Elbowing'? What the???

The only thing that major penalty call did was maybe keep the game from getting dirty.

Elbow?

Why is it that our guys get run and it's alway a clean hit. Ladd did not raise his elbows. It was a clean shoulder to head hit. Just like Havlat. Just like Toews. It's about time somebody from the Hawks ran somebody. Only NOW the NHL wants to clean this crap up. It's all about timing.

Frog Alert

Anyone notice that French-Canadian ref Stephane Auger f'd us Thursday in Nashville and then had the Habs assignment...calling a ridiculous interference penalty on Dave Bolland in the 3rd?

NHL referees are by and large.....pride paraders by day who moonlight as zebras by night and Auger's a front tier torch carrier on parade day. WTF NHL?

WOW Huet lets in 2 goals and

WOW Huet lets in 2 goals and people are already complaining. I would love to see Neimi get the bulk of the starts but we all know that will not happen. I say get use to seeing Huet in goal. You really can't blame him on the first goal, Campbell did his job and deflected the shot. Just bad luck that Cammalleri was standing there. The 2nd goal he should have stopped.

Cheese

I share your disgust but i can't stop watching the Hawks....i'm in too deep. When Tallon signed this sieve...my first reaction was WHY? To push Khabby? Give me a break. If he wanted to get rid of Khabby, he should have let him play his remaining year and then go searching for a tender.

The shame of the 2-2 goal was that O-lay had been very steady for the last 3 and half games and then to have a wet tissue paper goal like that....with 2 seconds left in the period. Now the doubts are back in his head. Geezus Peace.

Question....how long has Brian Campbell been stupid? $8 mil for a guy that contributes sparingly and rarely in the clutch. What was he doing basically assisting on Cammafairy's goal. Weak 51 !!! You're no Butkus. Get a haircut and real job you dozey brat.

Still, Kaner almost made it 3-cob on the goalmouth scramble but Price had horseshoes to keep it out. We still have the last twenty to salvage this one. Go Hawks !!!!

Too Bad It Wasn't Cammalleri

It would have been sweet revenge if Ladder had ko'd Cammafairy. I'll never forget the ugly cheap shot he laid on Havlat in last year's playoffs. Hope D'Agostini is ok though. Zebras blew the call again. Ladd's elbow never touched the Hab forward. Yes, i had the benefit of instant replay but these refs...once again...are out of touch. If anything, it should have been a charging penalty but i thought it was plain old fashioned hockey.

Huet Stinks.

I will not watch the Hawks anymore until they get rid of this guy.
He has let in 2 goals on 16 shots (The last one was a 5th grade goal. Kinda like Dallas two weeks ago. See a trend yet, Hueters?)
Meanwhile Carey Price has stopped 25 thorugh 2 periods.

Fill me in on what happens with this team, fellow bloggers. I have had enough Pastry to last me a lietime.............................

Buh-Bye

...and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Ill give you that the second goal was weak, but Huet had no chance on the first one. Campbell deflects a shot to a wide open calamari. Again Huet had no chance on that and neither would just about any other goalie.

You sound like the hockey stupid I hear at the games saying that if Huet had better fundamentals, he would stop those tip ins. Why do you think that teams go for the tip ins? Its cool when the Hawks get one, right? Its because they are almost impossible to stop. Ever notice how hawk players will deliberately shoot wide of the net? Their aiming for one of their mates sticks for a deflection.

We're spoiled with the high def super slow mo's that make it seem like a tip can be stopped, but let me put it to you like this. Imagine and 80 mph slap shot coming at you and then it gets tipped. That tip happens in a fraction of a second and if a goalie makes the save, its pure luck. You try and react to something that happens in a fraction of a second.

Look, Huet has let in some weak goals and he should be criticized rightfully for those. But, some goals go in and there's nothing that anyone can do about it. Except score more than the other team. Thats generally how you win the game.
