Well, well, well.

After Iowa shredded Northwestern on its first two possessions to take a 10-0 lead, the Hawkeyes became a turnover factory.

Iowa committed 4 turnovers in a 12-minute stretch of the second quarter and Northwestern capitalized for a 14-10 halftime lead -- and it probably should be more.

FYI, Mike Kafka started but Dan Persa has floated in and out. Persa, who ran the first six snaps he took, wound up with 19 first-half snaps while Kafka had 17.

Anyway, here's the turnover rundown:
14:04 2Q: Iowa QB Ricky Stanzi throws into double coverage and CB Jordan Mabin picks it off and returns it to Iowa's 48. NU forced to punt.

11:46 2Q: Stanzi runs play-action near the Iowa goal line. Corey Wootton, unblocked, hits him in the end zone and DT Marshall Thomas recovers for the touchdown. Stanzi stays down in the end zone and limps off and into the locker room. 10-7 Iowa.

10:20 2Q: Redshirt freshman backup James Vandenberg, who hasn't thrown a pass since Week 2 against Iowa State, fires his first pass right at OLB Quentin Davie. Kafka runs the first play on the drive from Iowa's 46, but Persa takes it the final 40 yards. NU runs it every play until the end, when Persa play-action fakes to Steph Simmons and hits Drake Dunsmore for a 4-yard score. 14-10 Cats.

2:58 2Q: Brad Phillips knocks the ball loose from freshman RB Brandon Wegher and Thomas recovers at Iowa's 42. The Cats get to the 29, but Persa throws into double coverage in the end zone (ignoring wide-open Zeke Markshausen near the 10-yard line) and free safety Joe Conklin intercepts.

Iowa leads in total yards 181-109, but Northwestern gets the ball to start the second half. Stanzi isn't out on the field warming up, so it looks like Vandenberg for the rest of the way.

Love how Northwestern in the

Love how Northwestern in the third quarter and for much of the 4th ran a shotgun spread offense. This with a seven point lead. One would think NU would be running to keep the clock moving.

It worked. The Hawkeyes couldn't stop it. Kudos to the NU coaching staff for spotting the Iowa defensive weakness.
