Cutler's no Comeback Kid
Not that I'm keeping track or anything, but Sunday night's loss to the Eagles was the second game in a row that "franchise quarterback" Jay Cutler had a chance to lead a fourth-quarter comeback and came up short.
That makes four times this season that Cutler has had an opportunity to lead the Bears to a game-winning or game-tying touchdown in the fourth quarter but didn’t get it done. To be fair, Cutler was instrumental in leading fourth-quarter comeback wins against the Steelers and Seahawks.
But after the Eagles went ahead 24-20 Sunday night with 5:31 left, the Bears failed to get a first down for the third straight possession. Then, when they got the ball back with 1:51 left, Cutler picked up 1 first down before he was intercepted trying to force a ball into Greg Olsen who was tightly covered.
In the previous game, the loss to the 49ers in San Francisco, Cutler and the Bears went three-and-out immediately after falling behind 10-6 with 10:11 left. They got one more chance, but Cutler was picked off in the end zone, again trying to get the ball to Olsen.
In Week Six, Cutler led a 92-yard, fourth-quarter drive that tied the Falcons 14-14. But, after Atlanta went back ahead 21-14 with 3:06 left, Cutler and the Bears went 78 yards but gave the ball up on downs at the Falcons’ 10-yard line with 29 seconds left. In fairness to Cutler, the Bears committed 3 offensive penalties in the final 65 seconds of that game, which hindered the final drive.
And let’s not forget the season opener. With 1:11 left, Packers QB Aaron Rodgers connected with Greg Jennings for a 50-yard TD and a 21-15 lead after the 2-point conversion. Cutler’s first pass after the kickoff was intercepted by Al Harris. Game over.

A week ago Bob pointed the finger of blame at Cutler.
I defended Cutler. Said he had little time to throw and the receivers weren't open.
Sunday, the offensive line played well and the receivers were open.
Cutler stunk it up.
I was wrong and Bob was right.
Every loss puts a bigger smile on Denver's face. Broncos get our 1st round pick. Then again, Angelo (really McCaskey) doesn't want that pick any way since they have to dish our $$ for #1 draft picks that suck here and go end up in Cincy.
Had the defense been able to hold serve he has two maybe three 4th quarter combacks this year. I am not saying he is great but it's not all on him.
Now we know Denver let Cutler go.look at the stats Favre 21 td,3 int.Until he shows me more,Cutler looks like a another in a long line of Bears QB busts.Eric Kramer came over from
Detroit in 1995 and we got to the playoffs, with 29 td's in the reg season.thats the last Bear QB
that was a real success.Collingsworth was asked what he thought about Cutler's game,
he said Terrible.Everybody laughed at Rex Grossman.I don't see much difference between
him and Cutler.
Actually, Kramer did less than that. He got hurt in the 1994 season and it was noodle-armed Steve Walsh that took the Bears to the playoffs in 1994. In 1995, Kramer had a great year throwing to Conway and Jeff Graham, but the defense was really starting to show its age and cracks, a lot due to that "genius" Wannstedt, and even though they finished 9-7 in 1995 failed to make the playoffs.
