All things considered, I'll take 5-3
No, it wasn't a spectacular beginning to the annual football picks with a 5-3 record from the eight title games. The start was inauspicious with unbeaten Lexington falling 14-7 to Tuscola (is that Terrific Tuscola, not far from Amazing Arcola, by the way?)
Anyway, we digress because I have no problem with being wrong with my two picks that resulted in titles for Herald-city teams in Montini and Cary-Grove. Couldn't be happier for two class acts in Montini coach Chris Andriano, whose team went from 5-4 to a second state title with a stunner over 13-time champ Joliet Catholic, and Cary-Grove coach Bruce Kay, whose team capped a perfect season with its first title over nine-time champ Providence.
It's similar to when I get involved in NCAA basketball tournament pools - for recreational purposes only of course - and start pulling for the underdogs even if it hurts my chances.
