Explanations and suggestions

Hue Jackson explained why he spurned the Bears for the Raiders on the Waddle & Silvy Show on ESPN 1000 today and the story is on ESPN.com.

Jackson’s explanation makes perfect sense, but it still doesn’t bode well for the Bears and Jay Cutler that the former Ravens quarterbacks coach chose to take the same offensive coordinator position with a worse team and a much worse quarterback (JaMarcus Russell).

Meanwhile, at nationalfootballpost.com, Matt Bowen agrees with a lot of us who think the Bears better sign Mike Martz now, or at least formally interview him, before they wind up scraping the bottom of the barrel after all the top candidates are gone.

Bowen, who played safety in the NFL for seven seasons and is a Glenbard West High School graduate and Glen Ellyn native, believes Martz would be a good fit with Jay Cutler.

Offensive Coordinator

I think that they should just go ahead an interview Ron Turner. He would probably be the only one who would not turn them down!

Job applicants can smell ice

The Bears hit the iceberg when they refused to fire everyone that should have been fired. Now their captain announces "full speed ahead" even though everyone notices the ship listing and taking on water. He is still trumpeting "all is well" and has asked the band to keep playing while rearranging some deck chairs.

But outsiders/top notch job applicants see the obvious and won't board until all of the holes are fixed and the jagged ice gets cleared. If the ship sinks beneath the waves before the needed repairs are done they'll just wait until the new and improved ship starts getting built and jump on board then with the new captain.

My god......when an OC would rather work with the coach killer that is Jamarcus Russell and the insane Al Davis you know you've got problems.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again ...

It isn't too late to fire the 3 Stooges ...

Prepare yourselves

for John Shoop II or worse... If they don't sign Martz, it will be some nobody they'll hire that will make Ron Turner look like a genius.

scraping the bottom of the barrel

That's how they wound up with Smith if you recall. They dithered until all the top candidates were gone. And the pick of assistants was even worse. He had a great special teams coach & Chico as defensive coach along with some good player personnel left over pre Angelo so was able to back into The Super Bowl thanks to Lance Briggs & Rivera and than the three stooges (Phillips, Angelo & Smith) rewarded themselves with long term contracts.
