Nady deal official

Nady deal official

We'll update here this afternoon after we get a chance to talk with Xavier Nady and Jim Hendry, but the Cubs have just made the one-year deal with Nady official. It's been a busy week for the Cubs, signing Nady and Chad Tracy and getting Sean Marshall signed to a deal to avoid arbitration. From what I see, agent Scott Boras also will be on the conference call. You don't see agents joining these things too often.

Back here with updates this afternoon.

yuk

The fact that Nady makes the Cubs' offense deeper and stronger tells you more about what's wrong that what's going to go right. And Tracy quit knocking right handed picthing around 2 years ago, the only advantage he has over Hoffpauir is he can play 3B.

Nady

Have you looked at his numbers? Doesn't sound like it.
How many 4th outfielders do you know of that puts up an 800+ OPS?

Since 2006: 289/342/480, 1618 plate appearances
Since 2007: 293/344/493, 1106 plate appearances
2008: 305/357/510, 607 PA.
2009: Injured.

I'll admit to a preference for Dye....

..........but what's not to like about Nady's stat line for 2008 (his last full season)? He's a legitimate big-league stick.

Nady in 2008: .305/ 25/ 97/ .357/ .510
in 148 games

Let's give Tracy a chance to be healthy and see what he does. If I'm not mistaken, he's recovering from microfracture surgery, which takes some time to heal completely.

More up...

On a fresh Friday afternoon blog. Check it out. I posted the numbers you provided, elliot, along with some projections. As I pointed out the other day, this has a chance to be a very good signing for the Cubs. Time will tell.

Not blown away.

Neither the Nady or Tracy signing is going to knock anybody's socks off, but if both of these guys are healthy, the Cubs everyday lineup is deeper and stronger than it was last year. Now let's get Lilly healthy and the starting rotation will be looking pretty strong.
