Wallin goes to San Jose
The Sharks acquired 6-foot-3, 220-pound defenseman Niclas Wallin from Carolina on Sunday, which likely means they no longer have interest in Anaheim defenseman James Wisniewski.
As Barry Rozner reported in his column on Sunday, the Blackhawks are interested in Wisniewski as a trade deadline acquisition.
Wisniewski, who played for the Hawks until last season’s trade deadline when he was dealt to the Ducks for Sammy Pahlsson, is available because he is headed for restricted free agency and is believed to be looking for a pay bump to about $4 million a year.
According to a source, the Hawks also might have talked to Anaheim about the availability of enforcer George Parros.
The first of the NHL’s two trade deadlines is Friday since there is a roster freeze in effect from Feb. 12-28 because of the Olympics. The league’s official trade deadline is March 3.
In exchange for Wallin and a fifth-round draft pick the Sharks gave Carolina a second-round pick that belonged originally to Buffalo.

AND WHILE I'M ON MY SOAPBOX, I REALLY WISH THAT IF THE HAWKS WERE GOING TO TRADE BARKER, THEY WOULD HAVE OPTED FOR A DEAL WITH THE SENATORS IN EXCHANGE FOR D ALEX PICARD AND F RYAN SHANNON, AS IT WAS RUMORED FOR QUITE SOME TIME, PREVIOUSLY. NOW WE GET THIS TIDDLY WINKER EUROPEAN, KIM JOHNSSON, ALTHOUGH TO BE FAIR, THE VOICE OF THE THRASHERS, DARREN ELLIOT SAID LAST NIGHT ON THEIR GAME THAT HE LIKES THE TRADE FOR BOTH TEAMS, FOR REASONS THAT ARE RESPECTIVE FOR BOTH, THE HAWKS AND THE WILD. GUESS WE WILL SEE WHAT JOHNSSON BRINGS THAT BARKER WAS NOT !!! AND BY THE WAY, IF ANYONE CAN ADVISE TO ME WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IN SALARY IS BETWEEN THE $3 MILL. THAT BARKER WAS MAKING AND THE COMBINATION OF JOHNSSON / LEDDY; PLEASE DO SO TO MY EMAIL ADDRESS OF KATLOVERS08@VERIZON.NET AND THANX IN ADVANCE. REG TOM
DIDN'T YOU FOLKS WHO WERE SHOUTING FOR THE RESIGNING OF MARTY HAVLAT AND NIKKI KHABULIN GET IT YET ??? SEEING WHAT WE'VE SEEN; DO YOU REALLY STILL WANT THOSE 2 STIFFS, AS OPPOSED TO HOSSA AND NIEMI / __________ ??? NOW THESE SAME TYPES KEEP YELPING FOR THE RETURN OF THE WIZ BUT FOR WHAT REASON ??? DON'T LOOK BACK !!! THE WIZ WAS GOOD WHILE HE WAS A HAWK, BUT SINCE THE TRADE, HE'S BEEN HURT WAY TOO OFTEN, AND BESIDES WE WOULDN'T RESIGN HIM PAST THIS SEASON ANYWAY. PARROS YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!! WIZ NO !!!!!!!!!!!!
PARROS ON THE HAWKS WILL MAKE OUR NEMESIS' GROW EYEBALLS IN THE BACK OF THEIR HEADS. AND HE HAS A KNACK TO GO TO THE FRONT OF THE GOAL TO PICK UP THE GARBAGE, LIKE THE BUFFSTER WON'T DO !!! FOR SOME REASON, BUFUGLIEN THINKS HE IS A PUCK HANDLER AND PLAY MAKER, BUT WE GOT GUYS FOR THAT ROLE !!! MOST ENFORCERS ARE SCRATCHED FOR THE PLAYOFFS; THIS WOULD BE A PERFECT OPPORTUNITY WITH THE ACQUISITION OF PARROS FOR HIM TO PROVE TO THE Q THAT HE SHOULD MAINTAIN A ROSTER SPOT AND LET'S FACE IT; ONCE HE'S IN A #22 GRANT MULVEY SWEATER, ALL BLUE COLLAR HAWK FANS WILL GO NUTZ WATCHING HIM !!!
Quick, Tim, we need a new blog... this place is blowing up! Love the passion, though, as any place you tried to talk Hawks before was usually pretty sleepy most of the time... At least we have reason to care again! And challenge one another to fights... Incidentally, I'm 40 so hopefully my pugilist days are behind me. I find having a beer much more enjoyable now than pounding someone's face, or getting my own face pounded for that matter... Now it's time to pay back the Stars for some pretty sloppy games against them the last two!! Go Hawks!!
Typically teams don't trade within the conference at the deadline. The Hawks need depth at D without taking on term so look for a guy like Dennis Seidenberg or some other no name guy with an expiring contract for a minor leaguer in the next few days or at the deadline.
RetriredWiz you read the draft book, after the first 15 picks there is no greater chance of a prospect playing 400 games regardless of where he is picked. 2 picks for a 2nd statistically is good move and even in the best draft years everyone after 15 is a crap shoot. Bowman is more likely to have fleeced Burke than the other way around and you don't know what else Burke promised Bowman to make the deal. Besides Wallin is not an upgrade on Sopel, Barker and Hendry.
Wiz is playing 25 minutes a night, stayed healthy can skate, shoot, hit and fight, why do people call him a 5th D? He will fetch more than Barker as a rental. He will get $4 million as a free agent.
There is no goalie controversy here, quietly Niemi has taken the number one job. The Hawks are keeping it quiet so they don't drag Huet through the mud in the event Niemi blows up. It is so obvious Niemi is playing better and will start in the playoffs.
Far too much personal stuff here now. The long term guys used to blog endlessly when the team was terrible without the name calling. Now the team is great and the bloggers suck. Why would anyone write something about a fellow blogger that they wouldn't say to his face in person? Whenever it pops up call the guys out and let's keep it what it is. We all pay the same and get paid the same to do this. Name call the guys making millions but leave each other alone.
Finally, guys when all you can whine about is a #6 dman who is plus 7 and a 15 minute a night 3rd line winger who is going to score 20+, rarely takes penalties and was a dominant physical presence in the playoffs last April. Things are good, real good.
Campbell is playing the best he does. Huet can't be blamed for winning the lottery.
Great post. Thanks
Steve, for one LAST time, and I am done with this: if the two picks Bowman got in 2011 turn out to better servicable NHL players than the one Brian Burke picks with the one he picks this June in the 31-33 slot you can preface every post with "misinformed draft guru" before addressing my posts. It just that I am SO confident at the solid strength of the top 45 picks, whereas 2011 is a draft where when shooting (at slots 36 & 66)into a barrel, the fish are more minnow sized, where that one 2010 shot is into a barrel that has a lot more wall-eye size upside prospects.
I do agree whole-heartedly that Hawk times are good, and there is no reason to be so full of ourselves on our attacks of each other.
Good post, Steve
anywhere near 45 players. Not even 10 guys a year are impact players. Drafting after top 15 is much ado about nothing.
Was liking everything you said (especially the draft pick comparisons) until ...well you can guess.
He is rewarding Niemi with another start which makes sense after the big win, but "obvious"?....I think because he is playing well coach Q will have the option of playing the hot goalie and nothing more.
and that is win win for us!
That blog was a ways back, maybe page one. I think you are correct in all you said. Since Sharp earns roughly one mill more than Versteeg, you'd think he is the more difficult one to move. But if somehow you can grab Taylor Hall, I'd move Bufuglien, Versteeg and Sharp. Hall is going to be a scorer in this league. We don't expect this scenario to ever happen...moving up and selecting Hall. But we need a legitimate scoring center. Hall fits insofar as he can shoot/pass (read: big scorer makes linemattes better as well) His skating is no issue but this scenario is almost assuredly not happening.
Want another name maybe dealt this summer? It's due to his salary, the penguins cannot afford to pay J Staahl $3mill to be their third center. Staahl and Bolland sharing the #2 and #3 center job? Well, if we even obtain another center, all those forwards and their salary have to go -- Sharp too! Let's be realistic... for this team to set its roster for years to come...it is better to establish a one -two punch at centerice. Toewes and....probably not going to be Staahl or Hall.
Sharp doesn't skate as well this year (due to last season's injury?) although I still like keeping him. Versteeg is a big puzzle. I mean, some like his potential, whereas RealWiz always tells me that Versteeg likely or maybe has reached his ceiling. I love his grit and talent and want to see if he can turn the corner to some degree like Kane did this year. But someone has to make a call on whether he has reached his ceiling. Does Bowman really like Versteeg, as a blog comment says he does? Maybe, who knows?
Chuck, still thinking it would be nice to meet and chat between periods -- you arrive at last minute to games? I hope your son not only enjoys Blackhawks, but maybe plays some hockey too. Seems timing is hard to meet up. I usually go to the bobblehead night games, for a friend who keeps one and e-bay the other. It isn't easy getting two bobbleheads by myself, and so many fans want you to give one up. I mean, did you see the lines outside stadium for last bobblehead. Unreal!
I also think if others met, you'd all wind up shaking hands. Boldirev -- I recall, you aren't a lawyer. Swisscheese, I think you and Boldirev cannot be any less passionate Blackhawk fans than any other fans around. But I know at least Boldirev lives far, far away from Chicago. Let's all hope we make it to the final round and maybe some of those living far away can make it to a Stanley Cup game. Wallin gone. RealWiz said: whose left?
Not sure if this will be a topic of an upcoming blog, but I wanted to weigh in on the current line combinations Q is using. Specifically, I want to fully endorse the line of Sharp, Toews, Kane, as I think we've seen over the last two years how much chemistry they have and how effective they can be playing together... I'd also like to see Q keep that line together on the power play or move Sharpie down to the second power play and move Hoss up to play with Toews and Kane on the #1 PP unit. I know you lose the guy in front of the net by not having Brouwer or Buff as one of your forwards on the #1 line and the #1 PP unit, but the skill level of that line is unbelievable and the chemistry undeniable. For lines two through four, I'd like to see the following:
Versteeg, Bolland, Hossa
Brouwer, Madden, Ladd
Eager/Kopecky, Fraser, Buff
Some may argue for having more grit on the first two lines but the skill level of those two lines would be as good as any top two in the NHL... Lines three and four would bring a ton of checking and enough offense to keep the other teams honest. When Burrish comes back, hopefully at 90% or better, he's pretty much interchangeable with anybody on the 3rd and 4th lines. I might like to see Buff used on the second line in place of Versteeg but I think Versteeg needs to play with better offensive players to be effective and he's wasted a little playing on the third and fourth lines. Here's hoping the #1 line stays Sharp, Toews and Kane because at times it looks pretty magical with those blokes playing together...
Versteeg on the 3rd line doesn't really seem to be working. Nothing against Madden and Byfuglien, but I think Versteeg would benefit from better linemates. I don't think he can completely commit to a checking role because we see him trying to dangle like a roller hockey player just about every single game. It'd be nice if he shot more or passed more, or anything besides trying to walk through four guys.
Bring back Wiz!
Love all you guys, but . . . this whole goalie thing is just insane.
Last I checked, you win hockey games by scoring more goals than the opposition does. Well, the Hawks give up less goals than any other team in the league.
In 07-08, Detroit led the league in GAA in the regular season . . . and then they did in the playoffs (with Chris Osgood).
In 08-09, Boston led the league in GAA in the regular season . . . and then they did in the playoffs.
I'm not predicting the Hawks will lead the league in GAA in the playoffs, but I also don't think they'll self-destruct. When Wiz spoke to a "highly placed" executive with the Hawks this summer and asked him what he planned to do about the goaltending he said, "don't worry about it."
When Sharp was interviewed the other night on CSN, he just laughed and said the guys in the dressing room think the whole goalie concern is overblown.
I'll say it again, it seems like so many people stake their credibility on proving that Huet sucks or that he's really good that it gets out of hand. And we lose sight of the real issues. I'll say it again. Best GAA in the league, and I'm not still sure this defense is all that great.
That means - management better get their act together and get more offense and another defensemen.
BTW - i highly doubt management has a clue. If they did, we wouldn't be in the goalie situation for two years in a row. And i guess we wouldn't have a goalie situation if we didn't score more goals.
That's who it was, I'm not making this up ...it was during the Blackhawks convention. I don't think he liked fans personally questioning him sort of off to the side. But Wiz has known many people for a long time in certain places, although not Stan.
Best GAA. Stat's don't tell the entire story. Huet's net coverage is horrible when he is more flat to the ice (not on pads) and he is giving way too much of the net high to shoot at than should be the case for a goaltender his size. Isn't a goaltender's balance on his skates very important? Niemi much better. Niemi is quicker. But Huet does make some tough saves. Am I overblowing this balance on skate issue, I ask 6628?
Overall at least lately Huet's performance has been acceptable. It really comes down to just does any goaltender stop the more difficult shots? Sometimes, yeah, those are deflections. Jacukel had it right a while ago, saying Blackhawks have to improve blueline corps as the way to go insofar as having a better defense. I couldn't agree more with that assessment, as well as the following....this defense is not all that great.
It is fairly good, but not shut down even WHEN Keith, Seabrook, and Campbell are playing well. Have to see if they can all have good games down the stretch. I would sacrifice points since it is more likely we loose when we rest key defensemen down the stretch. We can "afford to loose" since we have a big point lead and will still make the playoffs.
We can't be overly worried about the playoff match up. We can be overly worried whether our top defensemen aren't too drained from a long season.
I guess since my ears were burning, signaling I was being talked about. (Man, I bet L'il Scotty has ice cubes on his...)
So I figure I am compelled to post although I suspect it is pointless at this time.
I probably watch far more games than a lesser human should.
I don't want to insult folks but there are no longer stand-up goalers, Hasek's incredible success with the flattened "ice scraper" has opened minds to a dozen variations, all reasoned to be better against various on-ice situations. Can we agree that all NHL goaltenders play some form of hybrid butterfly?
So what might separate the goalers?
Rebound control
Overall reflex reaction
Glove hand
Side to side read & react-ability
Strong low net game
Strong high net game
Guessing ability
Horseshoe on the pads aka luck
and the type and how well the
his defense plays in front of him.
Think of 2 goalies you think right you think are mighty good.
Think about the times you saw THAT goalie being made onto a chump due to one or more of the above. I think a lot of factors play into goals being scored but I truly think the all-around quickness of offensive players inside the rule changes makes every goalie look weak in most games, and the fans of the scoring teams love it.
On July the Hawk braintrust made their decisions about the net position and as others mentioned, I was told there were no worries, meaning the hitched up to the horses they were gonna use to pull the load.
Nothing I have seen shifts their philosophy now, because I just don't see an answer in rethreads available at the deadline and refuse to waste any more energy on it.
Any philosophical shift will be put into practice AFTER the season.
These two goaltenders will share responsibilty in winning Lord Stanley's Cup, and I am certain they
are both looking to win for their team, no matter how much spilt milk is in blogs.
Me? I will get back on my high horse in the summer, as the feeling of helplessness consumes at the present time.
But to shift the topic a little: I wonder if the day will come when the criteria of a back-up will be determined by upside to play increasing monies AND by that back-up being a "shut-down Shoot-out relief pitcher" who is brought in (after ten minutes left in the tie game he leaves for a locker room practice Teflon ice to warm up) solely because he is the better one on one defender?
(yeah I kinda wreck any possible credibility with this but insomnia has strange effects...)
Im certainly not going to argue with a Goaltending Guru!!!! (no sarcasm intended only respect)
Like PG/SG in basketball they have mutated into a combo guard!! Paul, Rose etc
Have you noticed the "monster" on the leafs..he is on his knees when the puck is behind his net!!
If our defense is just "fairly good" when playing well, and our #1 goalie has lots of technical faults, then luck must play a big part night after night to end up with the best GAA in the NHL.
If we were 1/4 or 1/3 into the season, I'd go along with that more easily than I can after 50+ games.
Our top pair isn't playing their best right now, nor is Campbell. But when they are on, they're as good as any D in the league.
Hi Puck, balance and control can never be overblown when talking about playing hockey on ice. When Huet goes down and then wants to move he starts, as Grinder has put it very well, swimming. Other larger goalies, like Giguere, take up so much room that they don't have to move as much. Other guys are more agile and recover much quicker to face the next shot. I would put Niemi in that group, except the first period in Vancouver when he got pulled. Not sure why he wasn't the same, but he was on his butt and not very mobile or ready for a couple of the shots that were scored on him.
But most goalies go down a lot these days and swim around. Guys who disagree with me about goalies on this site point to that. But I like to point to the last save by Fleury for the Pens last year in the final game. Fleury was down to his left and made a save with the rebound going off to the right. He got over to his right and made the save as the Pens won the cup. Watch the replay and you will see him push off with the BLADE of his skate to go left to right, not swim around on his pads. So IMHO, I think goalies need to use their blades a lot more than they do now. Mobility is not the only advantage. They have a solid base and have more strength in their arms and torso as a result. They become quicker with their upper bodies as well as their legs. And I think they would have less hip, knee, & shoulder injuries.
At some point someday a coach will get good results with a goalie that nobody ever heard of using a hybrid style. And then that coach will get respected and probably copied by most of the league. It can't happen soon enough for me.
I was the one who said it about upgrading the def and relaxing with the goalies..maybe you tuned me out because of the sheer volume of my posts, I dont know. but while everyone was ripping Huet a new one i pointed in Keith`s and the Defense direction as a whole (Giveaways, Crease vision, deflection etc) That is still the best option when considering the Cap, team chemistry etc.
mini rant over
Im watching Broduer tonight and Van Riem`dyk`s goal, if scored on Huet would have been ripped for another soft goal.. have a look
Huets Balance? This is just a slight flaw in his technique (glove hand down by his side) but many goalies do this and its called playing the percentages. I wasnt a stand up when I played as my instinct was to make them shoot at the smaller parts of the net rather than low and its very common as you know!
I would bet 2/3 goalies or slightly more have the same style but its a real talent to to be coordinated with both your blocker and glove when descending to the ice!!
it is an interesting topic
I don't tune out anyone even if they are going back and forth with other post comments. I even read the entire comments. Just to see how they finish off. And then I think, too bad this happens...oh well...I'm trying to not get in those situations myself. And I know I over-reacted once with another post comment. Sometimes I also leave a lot of post. Try not to but when I do, it's only if there is something new to toss around or if i want to stress something to see if others will agree. You aren't going to always find everyone likes everything you say or do.
I sometimes even ask for some post people to contribute if I haven't seen their post for a while. Just thought of another post person who rarely comments: WirtzGMAround.
Southpaw, again would love to see your reasons on whom you pick for Western Conf playoffs and whom is on the outs.
I just nose into a conversation...one of my character flaws!!
I would doubt there as ever been a goalie who was able to convert to a standup vice a butterfly type style or vice versa. I dont even know if one or the other could be taught once one style in ingrained into your psyche.
Its something you cant control when a puck is being fired at you, what gives the best chance of protecting yourself first....puck second!
It's all about the cap... If Huet was making $1.5MM/year we'd love the heck out of him. However, at $5.6 or so million/year he's potentially taking one or two roster players away from the Hawks next year so you've got to consider some alternatives to him staying and guys like Sharp, Ladd, Hammer or Niemi leaving. I feel for the guy as I'm sure he's harder on himself than any of us are on him. I truly pull for him every time he's in net and hope that he pulls it together and starts to stand on his head a little and give us all some reason to pause when we suggest throwing him to the wolves! I hope his mates are as confident in him as they say because you've got to have confidence in the guy between the pipes to win -- and, I think they are. They are right there in GAA and you cannot completely discount the play of the netminders, as you correctly point out, when you consider that stat, so that's something to buoy our spirits as the playoffs approach!
Isn't this YOUR latest blog in HockeyBuzz???? Time To Hand Niemi The Keys http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/John-Jaeckel/Time-To-Hand-Niemi-The-Keys/...
Not trying to "battle" w/ you Jacukel and you're a great poster. I'm just confused as to your point on this board today. It appears on the surface that you're having it both ways but maybe I should re-read.
And no, not trying to have it both ways.
I think the goaltending "drama" is overblown. But I also think Niemi should be the guy. Or they should find out if he can be "the guy" NOW.
>It's clear many don't read what is written
>Nowhere do I say, "I think the Hawks should get Halak"
>In fact, I do say -- "Can't see Montreal obliging" -- meaning it won't happen
>Boston IS shopping Thomas
>Why "shoot the messenger"
>This board has really been clogged with a lot of BS lately
Wiz has been very silent on the subject as of late...he has spoken at length on Niemi but a lot of posters missed that i guess! Wiz i would be very interested on your take of this very nauseating "blog" goaltending controversy..
Well said Jakubel
only on here could we lead the league in GAA and question are keepers! Maybe the sky will fall in the playoffs....please!
If the Hawks still had the early Toronto second rounder in this strong draft it certainly would have been a better return for Carolina.
Oh, that's right, L'il Scotty traded it for two lower ones in the lean 2011 draft.
The reason the hawks aren't trading a second rounders is they didn't have two like SJ did.
When I hear the Hawks are trying to rent bigger contracted defenseman, I understand the reason but am scratching my head because Wallin would have been a reasonable renewed Cap contract and the oft injured Wiz is gonna be 2 month add-on, and gone.
(believe me I understood last year as he did that business is business, but I felt truly bad for him he missed out in Hawk Cup run.)
I just don't see that many defensemen available who are signable and not eating at Hjalmarsson & (next year) Seabrook Cap space, if they are playing five & six roster spot minutes.
San Jose just got better, and we could have blocked that.
So either this year's Hawk defense stays the same, or it it minus barker.
I just don't see whose ready in the system, so I guess it will be more Jordan Hendry.
Tim made the comment that Wiz could be looking for 4m next year. If you look at his stats, I'm not sure how ANYONE would pay him that much. He's a solid defenseman with decent skating and passing skills. He's not a huge offensive threat and he's not a big shutdown type of guy. He's a solid player who provides good chemistry in the locker room. Those things don't equate out to a d-man who's going to earn upwards of 4m per year. Based on his numbers he's in the area of 1.75 - 2.25m per at best.
If the Hawks have that type of room, you never know. He may take it in order to stay with a young team with TONS of potential. If he holds out for his 4m per year, he may be suprised to see that no one comes knocking on his door.
We will need 4-6 players to take the minimum..even the 2 mill range is too expensive for a 5/6th dman!
that is unless the "smart" posters find a way to deal Huet/Campbell!
Would love to see Parros and his 'stache in Chicago. We need someone to pound the teams like the Blues and Canucks when they start running our guys. Eager is too often unwilling to drop the mitts.
DUNNO IF I AM 2ND OR #100 TO SECOND THIS NOTION, BUT LEMME REGISTER THE THOUGHT THAT THE HAWKS ACTUALLY DO NEED A DECENT ENFORCER WHO ALSO HAS A KNACK TO GO TO THE FRONT OF THE GOAL, WHICH BUFUGLIEN DOESN'T DO ENOUGH OF !!! FOR SOME REASON, THE BUFF AND THE Q THINK THAT HE IS A PLAY MAKER AND PUCK HANDLER, BUT WE GOT GUYS TO DO THAT ROLE. BUFF SHOULD PARK HIMSELF BUT WON'T !!! GEORGE PARROS WOULD BE A WELCOMED ADDITION FOR THAT REASON; FORGET THIS DARN WIZ RETURN. ANYONE SAYING THAT THE HAWKS DON'T NEED PARROS SHOULD WATCH THE CANADIENS WHEN THEY GO DOWN IN FLAMES FOR LETTING GO OF GEORGES LARACQUE !!! AND THIS WOULD BE A PERFECT TIME TO ACQUIRE PARROS; FOR THE STRETCH DRIVE TO SEE WHAT HE CAN DO, AND TO EVALUATE HIS ROLE FOR THE PLAYOFFS, WITH HOPES THE Q WON'T MAKE HIM A HEALTHY SCRATCH FOR THE POST SEASON !!!
I don't think there is a use for an enforcer in this league any more. I certainly don't see a need for one on the Hawks (PS Eager is not an enforcer). While I enjoy hockey fights I would rather watch HOCKEY when I go to a game or turn on the tv. Parros brings nothing to the scoreboard just like the clown in St Louis, Janssen, that saw 5 seconds of ice time this weekend. There are so many better ways to use our already deep roster with the limited 12 forward slots on the line up card.
Not in million years....how about $600 k and we call it a deal...
Chicago couldn't re-sign Wizniewski anyways but I agree...4 million? No freakin' way is he worth that.
If you want to keep track of any halak rumors, try this: habsinsideout.com
I wanted the hawks to deal Havlat for him at the deadline last year.
and i thought you were nuts...haha
Both of them (price) are RFAs next year as you know and but much will it take to sign them?
all the chatter that I hear (the Montreal Gazette) suggests they want to keep them both Ala Nashville!
do you pencil them in for around 7mill combined??
I'd love to find a way to pry the bruin's 1st rounder, from the leafs. Sharp, Buf...
No trading Sharp!
I like Sharp a lot as well, but I like Taylor Hall better. That's not taking into account the money implications, either.
he can apy anywhere and is a leader on the team.
>Word out of Canada is that the Hawks are really pushing for Halak -- can't see Montreal obliging -- what the Hawks are offering wasn't disclosed
>Bruins are quietly shopping Tim Thomas for the right price (isn't he 35?) -- wouldn't give them too much -- a Bruin deal might be a big one as Boston finally won its first game in a long time today with Rask (not Thomas) getting the shutout -- and word out of Boston is that the GM is looking to create a giant roster shake-up (great way to add at least another year to his own security, too)
quit dreaming...they're going to trade their best goalie? No chance. Price is crud too so why would MTL trade Halak and install a SIEVE like Price? C'mon Man?
And Montreal has no room for taking big contracts back as they are up against the cap like us and are even worse next year!
Yah...thats BS....no way Montreal wants to part with their best goalie....and as for the Tim Thomas rumours....COME ON! 35 year old with a 4 year/20 million dollar contract? We got that already!
The George Parros deal is also stupid as he's not needed come playoff time as no teams want their players to fight then.
And HawksSox is right, deal with the fact that there will be MASSIVE salary cutting and the return will not knock you out.
They're saving that for you AFTER they ask your season ticket order.
Meet the new boss . . .
Anyone else hearing rumors that Lecavalier or St. Louis are headed (one or the other) to the Blues?
They are not ready for prime time and need to dump salaries first.
