GLENDALE, Ariz. _ After White Sox pitchers and catchers went through their first spring workout Sunday, manager Ozzie Guillen announced Mark Buehrle is going to be the Opening Day starter.
It will be the eighth time Buehrle starts the opener, a franchise record. The 30-year-old lefty is currently tied at seven with Billy Pierce.
Jake Peavy is going to be the Sox' No. 2 starter, likely followed by John Danks, Gavin Floyd and Freddy Garcia.
Ozzie usually delays deciding on his Opening Day starter, but he got it out of the way quickly this spring.
“I think Mark earned that spot, the respect and love we have for him,” Ozzie said. “No. 2 is going to be Peavy and the rest we haven't decided yet.”
The Sox open the season April 5 against the Indians.
