Peavy perfect in Cactus debut
Jake Peavy showed why he's expected to be one of the American League's top starting pitchers in his Cactus League debut on Friday.
Facing an Angels lineup that featured top hitters Kendry Morales, Torii Hunter, Hideki Matsui and Bobby Abreu, Peacy breezed through 3 scoreless innings before turning it over to Bobby Jenks.
Peavy, 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA in 3 starts for the White Sox last season after coming over in a July 31 trade from the Padres and overcoming ankle and elbow injuries, allowed just 2 singles vs. Los Angeles and the right-hander had 3 strikeouts and no walks.
Peavy was supposed to make his first exhibition start vs. the Cubs last Sunday but the game was rained out.
Peavy left Friday's game with a 7-0 lead thanks to 2-run homers from Gordon Beckham and Alex Rios.
