Mitchell report (UPDATED)
Bad news for the White Sox and top prospect Jared Mitchell, who was injured in Friday's Cactus League game vs. the Angels.

Mitchell, the Sox' first-round draft pick last June, was invited to spring training and the outfielder made a good impression before being sent back to minor-league camp.
Mitchell was 4-for-9 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI. The 21-year-old outfielder was likely headed for a full season at Class AA Birmingham.
We'll keep you posted on his impending ankle surgery.
*The White Sox sent this release out a few minutes ago:
Outfielder Jared Mitchell, who suffered a posterior tib tear of the tendon in his left ankle on the medial (inside) side during Friday’s game at the Los Angeles Angels, will be evaluated on Monday in Scottsdale, Ariz. Mitchell is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday at the Greenbaum Outpatient Surgery Center. Dr. John Nasser, a foot and ankle specialist, will perform the procedure. A rehabilitation schedule and recovery time will be set following surgery.

I think this loss is very big. Not for the Sox this year but for Mitchell's future. He was a part time football player at LSU so it isn't like he was gaining a lot of experience and playing a lot in college. Not to lose an entire year in the minors. I really hope he comes back strong and turns into the player the Sox drafted him to be and need him to be. However, I am not sure what will happen now. Kind of cryptic but how many football/baseball guys from college make it as baseball players?
football players cross over into MLB very well.
Just look at the Sox in recent years. Joe Borchard (Stanford QB) was a bust, and so was Josh Fields (Oklahoma State QB).
You also have John Elway and Drew Henson, who never cut it with the Yankees.
Bo Jackson was an exception, as was Deion Sanders to a lesser degree.
Joe Mauer might have been a star QB in the NFL. He was recruited to play QB at Florida State, but wisely decided to stick with baseball and play for his hometown Minnesota Twins.
This is really too bad. Was really looking forward to sseing how he played in Spring Training and his future status for the major league team. Still think he'll be our leadoff hitter of the future, though.
