Cubs trade Blanco to Texas

MESA, Ariz. _ The Cubs cleared up a roster question today by trading shortstop Andres Blanco to the Texas Rangers for a player to be named or cash. The Cubs also outrighted the contract of Rule 5 pitcher Mike Parisi to Class AAA Iowa. Because Parisi had been outrighted once before, he was able to become a minor-league free agent and not go back to St. Louis. he chose to stay in the Cubs organization. We'll have more from GM Jim Hendry in a few.
Mike Fontenot will play short today in place of Blanco, who was in the starting lineup we gave you on this morning's blog:

Depending on what else happens in the coming week, things became easier for Kevin Millar and/or Chad Tracy to make the opening-day roster.
More coming.
