With Tomas Kopecky unable to play Wednesday because of an upper body injury and Troy Brouwer still attending to a family matter, left wing Bryan Bickell was recalled from Rockford and in the lineup against St. Louis.
Kopecky was hurt in Tuesday’s 5-2 win at Dallas and could be questionable for the weekend as well with what Hawks coach Joel Quenneville called a “short-term” injury.
With the Hawks needing to win their last three games to capture the Western Conference crown, Antti Niemi was to make his seventh straight start.
Meanwhile, Quenneville didn’t paint an optimistic picture that defenseman Kim Johnsson would be back for the start of the playoffs next week.
Johnsson has been suffering from concussion-like symptoms since a March 13 collision in a game at Philadelphia.
“I can’t give you a good answer right now when we’ll see him back,” Quenneville said.
