Cock-a-doodle-doo

Cook County Board President Todd Stroger talked to the Daily Herald’s Joseph Ryan yesterday about growing discontent in the suburbs that’s led some to suggest a new, breakaway county be formed.

"If you want to take your ball and go home, then take your ball and go home," Stroger said Wednesday. "I'm not going to try and stop you. If you want to go, that is your right as a citizen."

Recall showdown
The big showdown of the day will be in the Illinois Senate where a vote is expected on a new, expanded constitutional amendment that would let voters recall public officials rather than wait for the next election.
Any such amendments must be approved by May 4 to get on the November ballot for voter approval.
The House passed a recall amendment a couple weeks ago, but the Senate decided to add judges and local officials to the mix.
Meanwhile, many lawmakers are grumbling that the really important issues – school funding, the budget, building roads and schools – are being ignored both by the powers that be and the media.
More on that later.

Meet the new boss …?
Mark Cuban had front-row sweats for last night’s Cubs blowout of the Brewers. He’s interested in buying the baseball team from the Tribune Co., which has been trying to get the state to buy the ballpark in a separate deal.
The game was televised on ESPN, and here’s some of what Cuban had to say.
On buying the cubs: “I’m certainly interested.”
On whether baseball needs him: “Look, Major League Baseball has done fine without me.”
On what he’d do different with the Cubs: “… come up with cool things.”
Of note, Cuban was wearing a Cubs jacket before the interview. Took it off for the interview. And then put it back on after the interview.
