The Bulls originally declined an opportunity to meet with Boston assistant Tom Thibodeau during the six-day break before the Finals, thinking they didn’t want to be pressured into a quick decision.
But with Thibodeau feeling the heat to accept an offer from New Orleans by Thursday, there were suggestions Bulls management had a change of heart and flew to Los Angeles to meet with Thibodeau on Wednesday night.
How this will work out is not yet clear. Sources said the Hornets wanted an answer from Thibodeau sooner and he convinced them to wait a few days. There have also been rumors that the Bulls are Thibodeau’s first choice.
Obviously, Thibodeau’s mind should be on game-planning for Thursday’s Game 1 against the Lakers. Frankly, I’m surprised a team like the Hornets are even allowed to offer Thibodeau a job in the middle of the playoffs. Then again, he was passed over during the Celtics’ championship run in 2008 and is anxious for the chance at a head job.
